That's a good move (unless it's another loser like you indicated the AOpen is). Anxious to find out if there is a more fully-featured SiS648 board than the Gigabyte, that's as good a performer and as stable as the Gigabyte (there sure doesn't look like there are any others that can cut the mustard - which is sad)!

Oh, just noticed that Hardocp will be reviewing the A-Open, so this review and theirs should complement themselves

It is mindnumbingly slow today. I am getting back to test this AOpen board that is on the bench. I have not started OCing yet, but it has been the most solid board that has blessed the UndergroundBunker in some time.

Will be very interesting to read both! And please, if possible, publish some scores with the RAM to the max! (if it's possible like it was with the Albatron)

Actually, every recent review of AOpen's i845PE/SiS648 boards has been very favorable - except Evan's comments about the AX45-8XMAX. I realize this thread concerns i845PE boards, but I want to say in AOpen's defense, that any testing of the 'MAX' board is meaningless because it is not being sold in the US. According to AOpen, the MAX was replaced by the AX45-8XN - which has received an excellent review.

PS. Evan... you really should return (or trash) the 8XMAX and request AOpen to send you the 8XN. I can't imagine why in the world they sent you an obsolete/discontinued board. :Q

The AOpen and MSI 845PE reviews will also be up within the next week, along with nForce2.

I too am waiting anxiously for Evan's review of the EPOX EP-4PEA+

Looking at the specs (what limited info I can find), it appears to fill the holes that the GB 8PE667 and the Asus P4PE have (at least the holes that are important to me):

EPOX EP-4PEA+ vs. Gigabyte 8PE667:
1. Has both Firewire and Serial ATA (The GB board is missing both of these)
2. Hoping to see no problem with 2 or more memory sticks

EPOX EP-4PEA+ vs. Asus P4PE:
1. Has 2 RAID IDE Controllers (P4PE only has 1 that need to be set as Master/Slave)
2. Well, I guess that is the only advantge over the P4PE, but important for the RAIDers

Has anyone seen this board for purchase yet? EPOX doesn't even have it on the site except for the press release.
I will wait for the review before I take the plunge into one of the other board.

P.S. Anyone know if the EPOX EP-4PEA+ has built in Audio? If it did I would expect the Realtek Codec as the LAN is a RealTek

It's one of the fastest and most feature-filled DDR P4 boards on the market. It's overclocks just as well as any other 845PE board, which is good.

Great to hear! That's just for the Epox, or the Aopen (and maybe MSI) as well? Especially relating to speed and overclockability. Just can't wait to finally get my new setup! Watercooled too... hehe!

 

Any idea when it will be out?

The Epox review has been ready since Monday; I just assumed Anand was going to post it then. But he was very busy.

So, hopefully within the next few hours (it depends if Matt releases his Dell laptop review too).
