Here are the specs

Asus A7V
T-Bird 750
128M Mushkin rev2
IBM 75GXP 30G
Asus V7700 Pure

After constructing the computer I have installed the latest Via 4 in 1 drivers, Promise ATA100 drivers, nvidia detonators, and then I try to install the SB Live! value. I get to the part where it says 'updating windows drivers' and then it just hangs. This the 2nd fresh install of win98se I have tried. I tried switching PCI slots but that hasn't worked.

Anyone know what I could do? This is with the Liveware 3.0 btw. I feel like such a smacked ass!

I think I remember having the same problems with 98. I finally decieded to switch to Windows 2000, because I never could figure out what was makeing it mess up. Sorry I can't help you.

Try doing a search. This problem's fairly commno. I think you've to disable soundblaster emulation or something like that.

I had the same problem in win2k and tried to live without liveware for a while, but it worked like a charm when I was doing a clean install.

OK, installing just the drivers was a no go... I noticed a lot of crap was sharing IRQ5... I changed it up so my NIC is using 10 by it self, but whenever I change the IRQ for the SB, the Promise ATA/100 mass controller picks the same IRQ as the SB!!! Should I uninstall the Promise controller and then install the SB, then re-install the promise controller? Oh and sometimes the drivers do install, but when I try to go into the creative mixer I get an error message saying 'Failed to load in plugins'.

thanks

Am I the only 1 with a SBLive and a ASUS A7V that has had no problems?
Everywhere I go, everybodys A7V doesn't work with the SBLive, hmmmm. Download the new drivers and flash your bios.

Peace,
Nore

My BIOS is v1004C and I have the latest drivers from creative... I am using the latest VIA 4in1's and the latest Promis ATA100 drivers. The A7V I'm working on is rev1.02 btw.

For 'Failed to load in plugins', check 'Multimedia' in the 'Control Panel' and make sure that on the 'Audio' tab you have as 'Preferred Device' for 'Playback' and 'Recording' only 'SBLive Out' and 'SBLive In'.

Did you try disabling the sb emulation like someone mentioned earlier, that did it for me, but i was on a different setup, but the problem sounds similiar

Disable ACPI in the bios by telling the bios that no P&P OS is installed. Then use the bios to assign irq's to the different PCI slots. That last step may not be needed, first reboot and see what happens. Windows will re-detect all hardware so have the windows cd nearby. Make sure the SBLive in not in slot 1 or 5. I can not say with all certainty that that will work, but the IRQ sharing crap done by ACPI can cause problems with the SB16 emulation. If you do not need that, disable it the moment the drivers are installed.

The only problem is that it never gets installed! It crashes when installing the drivers... I'm going back to the guys house right now to hopefully sort it out. I started finding numerous resources all about the problems of the A7V, I can't believe there are so many problems with a MB that has gotten such rave reviews.

ok... here we go... I formated and did a fresh install of win98se; here's what I have done

installed win98se
latest 4in1 drivers
latest promise drivers
installed NIC
downloaded all updates
installed detonator 3

ran 3Dmark and got a score of 6166, with everything conservatively set (no o/c, RAM at 100, AGP fast write disabled). SETI is runnin fine so far, but the computer has crashed in outlook express.

I don't have the SB card in the computer and I have the NIC in PCI 3. What checklist should I go through before I install the SB live!?

I have set the legacy IRQ to 5 and I have the BIOS in normal mode.

I figure I would install just the drivers before I put in the card, and then physicaly put in the card. How can I force the Promise controller to take a certain IRQ so it doesn't keep on following the sound blaster?

thanks

I had the LiveWare 3 also crashing my system when I first installed it, but the latest patch for it took care of the problem. I've also seen several other (Celeron) systems experiencing same sort of instabiliy on unpatched Liveware 3, so it's definitely not a chipset-related issue.

Download all latest patches for Liveware and your problems should go away.

I have downloaded the latest drivers from soundblaster... I have a CD for liveware 2.0, I might try that. And if all else fails, I will load the via drivers and promise drivers from the Asus CD instead of using the latest.

I had the exact same probs as you. I got so frustrated I called Creative Tech support. They told me not to install LiveWare 3.0 with my board (A7V at the time - since then I got rid of it), just the liveware 3.0 drivers. You can find the drivers on the Soundblaster website (called sblw9xup.exe). After installing these, disable SoundBlaster DOS emulation in your system settings.

After that I had no probs... Just couldn't run the full version of LiveWare 3.0.

I thought I should share this information with all of you... after 2weeks of trying to get the SB to work, I took the card back to the store and got it replaced with a new one... voila, it worked!!!

When booting up, it saw the drivers I had previously installed and it started it configure the drivers. It came to the part where the other card crashed every singe time and it just went past it! I was feeling like a computer idiot all this time when it wasn't my fault! It was a defective piece of hardware!

I hope that helps anyone that's in the same situation as was.
