The whole point of this thread is for people that Hate moving their ID yourname@anyplace.com everytime they get a better deal. This can become tiring and frustrating.....

OPTION 2: Stay with Amexmail.. and or Yahoo... or Hotmail (msn)

First I was with Netaddress which migrated us to Amexmail, now Amexmail is disolving and it's going to be 29.95 a year to maintain my addresss. I really like USA.NET for a lot of reasons such as :

-Multiple and conditional email forwarding
-Filtering
-Very easy folder and email management
-5 year investment in my *.usa.net Address
- Almost 0 Downtime over the 5 years

But there are a few hassles, biggest one being 10 meg mailbox limit. I can't tell you how many times I chokes my box on a few WORD attachments.....

I guess the biggest use of this service has been multiple forwards to my cell phone and other addresses, as well as ROAMING email which has served me very well thru AOL, MSN, @home, several ISP's all the while always keeping my same address!

I was looking at Yahoo, but they too are charging for forwarding after 3/24.

OPTION 2: Look elsewhere for a better Service...

cool sounding email extension. short enough to remember. free smtp and pop mail. they only send you a newsletter now and then. this is my recommendation to the AT community. don't flood them. =)

they sent out a letter to all the people that use their service. they will still have webmail. that will remain free. but for people that want to use eudora, outlook express, or a client on their computer like that ... they will no longer be offering POP mail for free.

I would recommend these two email services:

Myrealbox.com and
mailandnews.com

They both offer free pop3/imap/smtp access and they don't tact anything to the bottom of your outgoing mail which is very nice. This has been posted before but I can't seem to find it under the search anymore. They do offer 10 megs of space for each account so it's enough for casual users but might not work too well if you're looking for more than ten megs of storage space.

This site is in what seems to me to be German. I sure would like know what my email provider is trying to tell me if they ever email me, like "warning all your email will be deleted tomarrow".


That fastmail site offers a option of using username@f-m.fm That seems a nifty little extension. I personally can vouch for SoftHome(no cost, fast servers, never seems to be down, 15 mb/500 message limit)

What is mailandnews servers like now that they were bought out?

I had mailandnews as my primary free email site, then they told us the were shutting down at the end of february so I set up another account with SoftHome and Amexmail and deleted my mailandnews account.
Then, on the last day I understand they were bought out by someone else. But, I'll have to say mailandnews servers were both slow and often down when I was using them.

My experience with the "new" mailandnews.com is that its still just as slow. I dont know if they've transferred the servers to the new company yet or not though. MyRealBox.com is pretty good, but their uptime is not very good. I am mad because I just switched my email from @Home.com to Amexmail.com and now Amexmail.com is going away too! My new address is a bigfoot.com for life address which will forward all of my email to whatever email address I want. Hopefully I won't need to change my email address again for a long time!

I've been using mail.com (iname.com) for 5 to 6 years as a permenent address to forward my e-mails to other POP3 services such as my school/work, Yahoo, and Amex. Last week they also said that they couldn't proved free e-mail forwarding any more after April. Now, most of e-mail addresses are not POP.

The reason I'm looking for a free e-mail forwarding service is because I want a permenent address no matter I could afford or not. From what happening now, I think there will be no such thing as free any more. It's okay since I have enjoyed it for 6 puls years.

I'm currently looking for a domain hosting service that is cheap and provide e-mail packages. www.domaindirect.com seems good. For $140, you have 1 domain name, 1 POP3 e-mail account and 5 forwarding e-mail accounts for FIVE years.

I've been using hotpop for pop3 and smtp for about 8-12 months. No problems, free. But I don't think they offer personalize domains.

i use pair.net for webhosting, it provides me an email address. it is pop capable, so am using a mail.com forwarding address to send to pair.com email addy. i am also on the telnet/ssh (basic) plan so can check remotely by ssh or by pop (i travel quite a bit, ssh is good to check on the go, download my mail when i get home by pop)

price: $10/yr for mail forwarding, $10/month (discounts for paying entire year in advance)

if you have teh need for webhosting, thats prolly the best way to go. there are other webhosting services out there, i had a friend recommend pair.net to me, and have had no problems in the past year and a half.

free email was something to enjoy while it lasted...i dont really mind paying too much to keep my email address because it is something easy to remember

udon, GMX did away with their multilingual pages on Jan 31st so it's really not an option for people unless they can read German. I rec'd an email from them recently and it was in German. I had to use Worldlingo to translate it.

things should be translated and forms should work ... thats how i signed up before they had multilingual support. my high school german didnt' help out much. =)

gmx is otherwise a really good provider. ive hardly ever experienced downtime from them.

That's exactly what I did. $13/year for your very own email address for life. Never have to tell your friends that you got a new email address again.

I was using mydomain, and it worked fine, but when I saw the $3.90 deal, I had to sign up for it. Now I can put up a website too.
