<< got PC2100 PNY "REGISTERED" Memory >>

And it works with the 845D chipset? I had read 845-D chipset can not handle registered RAM. Are those modules taller than normal ram?

I've got my 1.6a and a asus p4b266-c board finally and have hit 2.4 with no problems no voltage upped yet. May try higher later. Idle is 25c load is 37c. May have to give in to that AVC generic deal and go higher. Anyone got this CPU cooler yet? It is at pc power and cooling some sort of generic avc sunflower heatsink. Also were is the cheapest place to buy Arctic silver 3?

on further review....If using USB...system hangs while playing Unreal tournament, for example..No USB, no problems..

Problem exists WITHOUT overclocking..so I have either a bad motherboard USB or something else..

I received my 1.6a from googlegear today, it is a malaysia chip, using it right now at 145fsb 2320mhz it wouldnt post at 150 even at 1.7volts , but that may be the motherboard, it is running around 46c at 1.65v , 4114 in 3dmark2001 up from 3500 , very nice scores in sandra, beats all of the comparison systems except the 850chip mem bandwidth test, I have 2175mbps mem bandwidth 850/ddr gets 2450.

I have run 3dmark 2001 many times, and played some heavy Q3, both of those programs are good at crashing unstable overclocks, everything is looking good so far I would have liked to get 150mhz cpu fsb for 2.4ghz and memory at 150 for 300 ddr (I have DDR333 memory) but I am not going to worry about 80mhz on the cpu and 43mhz on the memory.

Is the 1.6a the new DANCING QUEEN I say YES!!

I bought the p4s333-m also lemcc. I bought it cuz I was building a lan box in a micro atx case. It runs perfect at 2.2 Ghz and the default voltage. It boots and runs fine at 2.4 Ghz except I get errors when running the prime95 torture test. If you find anyway to tweak the voltage please post it. I'm sure the chip would run fine with a minor bump in voltage

Anybody know how well a 1.6 would overclock on a ECS P4VXAS ? Is it even possible?

How about a 1.6 with an Intel 82801BA?

Reply ....
PMs appreciated.

kevman -

The P4B266 runs at spec 33 MHz PCI clock automatically @ 133 MHz FSB and 31 MHz automatically @ 125 MHz FSB. It's somewhere in that manual it comes with (sorry I forgot the page). If its stable it should be running relatively in spec.

As for checking what your PCI clock is, SiSoftSandra 2002 tells me what speed my RAM and sometimes PCI clock runs, although it has the convenient "feature" of telling me my PCI clock when its at default speed (1.8 GHz w/ 100 MHz FSB) then when I O/C it it doesnt even have a column for PCI speed!

Another utility to try is WCPUID.

Again, look over the manual, it talks about what speeds it changes the PCI clock to (100-124 MHz is a linear increase of PCI clock, it gets pretty high around 120+ ... then 125 it sets it to 31 MHz and 125-133 it goes from 31 MHz - 33 MHz then again over 133 MHz it increases linearly -so that 150 MHz FSB gives 37.5 MHz PCI, etc ...)

This pic is something I came across tonight while messing with my FSB and DDR ratios.
Couldnt get prime95 to go past 15 runs without an error at 150fsb..(ddr 4:3 ratio)..would get a BSOD when using IE (invalid page in non paged area) at 153fsb (ddr was 4:3 ratio)..even with 1.675v

I settled on 144fsb with the ddr at 1:1 and spd timings..although it would boot at 153fsb/4:3/2448mhz

what do you make of this pic? the Asus probe shows my 1.6a as having a max speed of 2.4..maybe it knows something?

What is the best settings to have on the p4b266-c? I have the 1.6a at 2.4 (16x150) with no voltage upped, mem at 1:1, optimisations left at normal instead of tubo 1, turbo 2. Also have pc2100 ddr mem from crucial I set to all the highest settings 2t instead of 2.5t &etc. Anything to change with AGP Driving value and or other settings? Right now I have a radeon 8500 and have gained 900 points going from a 1.3hz amd to this 2.4 p4. I figured Since I was upping the FSB more on this and had a higher speed as well I would hit atleast 1200 more points.

8635 3dmarks

Just want to tweak everything the best I can.

BTW Where can I pick up Arctic Silver 3 cheap?

I'm also curious about this also. I could not get my system stable at 138 FSB at stock voltage, win xp bluescreens and reboots. should I change my memory sottings or up the voltage for stablility?

Look at this guy, Anpaman reports his 1.6a from this Place.

His spec.
Intel P4 Northwood 1.6AGhz (Locked)
SL668
ABIT TH7II Modded
2 x PC800 64MB RDRAM 2.7V 3x mode
VCore 2.3V

LN2 -183

SCSIC390U3D

Windows ME

And WCPUID reports,

Internal Clock: 3648.83
System Bus: 912.21
System Clock: 228.05
Multiplier 16.0

System Clock: 228.05, how is this possible? Is System Clock same as FSB we've talked about? Most people get Max @ ~150FSB.

I don't know much about RDRAM can someone explain?

I got my Asus P4B266-C and P4 1.6A Costa Rica chip from Newegg on Tuesday. It runs fine at 2.133 Ghz with these settings:

133Mhz FSB
1:1 Memory
1.5 Volts
Turbo 1 mode

Is there any other setting that I'm missing? Where can I check to see whether it's running at 66Mhz AGP/33Mhz PCI? How come in Motherboard Monitor 5 it shows the voltage but the temp is 0 degrees C? Thanks.

Page 1 of this thread has a post by Yourself stating that the Abit BD7 has problems.

I too am having problems with the Abit BD7-RAID and it's pissing me off!!

I just ordered a ASUS P4B266 RETAIL BOX from pc-beyond.com for 162.22 2nd Day FedEx. Total price including shipping costs makes this place very competitive. Hopefully this will solve the reboot problems I've been having with the Abit board. I used to be a diehard Abit fan since the BH6 but I'm slowly losing faith

My Specs:
Intel Northwood 1.6a
Mushkin 2x256 PC2700
???? Motherboard

Bangsailio, very nice #!

Do you have USB port problem as others too with your OEM p4b266-C? And where you get your board from?

I took the plunge and ordered the P4s333-M (microATX board with LAN card built in) and a Northwood 1.6A. I also purchased the 2 sticks of 256MB Kingmax PC2700 memory. I already have a new 300watt microATX case for it. I'm hoping to get at least 2128mhz with it (FSB 133 at default voltage). I'm really hoping my cpu is like WheelsCSM's with default 1.5 voltage overclocks . To me 2128mhz is an acceptable overclock. I don't think I'll have the balls to do the wire trick yet until someone else oes it first - hehe. But you never know. Either way I'll keep you all posted.

EDIT: I bought the stuff from GoogleGear.

<<well, I dl'd the mobo monitor and when setting it up, theres 3 diff sensors that give temps. asus 1, 2 & asus csul2, 3 gives me temp of -1C. asus 1 gives me idle temp of 24C (which matches chipset temp in asusprobe), asus 2 gives idle temp of around 30C and cusl2 gives idle temp of around 45. which one should I trust? I know you said cusl2 was the one that would work. the temps on asus 2 match the asus probe temps when on full load, but the asus probe wont go under 40C idle. im getting so many diff readings, i dont know which one to trust. >>

I get almost the same readings as you on MBM 5 (2.133 Ghz/Idle).

Asus 1 - 28C
Asus 2 - 30C
Asus 2 CUSL2 - 45C
Asus 3 - -1C

I would also like to know which one is the correct reading. Anyone know?

I was thinking of switching my Asus P4B-266 motherboard w/ DDR to Asus P4T-E (ICS chips) w/ RDRAM. I was wondering can the P4T-E can safely do 133FSB/33PCI? Is there an entry of 133/33 in the newest P4T-E BIOS?
