I posted a few days ago about having problems with my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard. Well I still have problems.

So I bought 1GB of PC3200 OCZ value ram from Monarch (2x512) and I plugged that into the motherboard to see if it would make a difference. Previously when I pushed the power up button, the CPU and motherboard fan would spin fine and the hard drive would spin up too, but then nothing more would happen. It wouldn't even get to the BIOS screen. The monitor would just remain dark.

So I put my old computer back together and waited for the new ram to arrive.

Today the ram arrives and I rip out my old system again and again I put in the MSI board and install just one stick (512mb) of ram into the first green slot nearest the CPU, the video card and the hard drive with the OS on it and I power it up and now as soon as I turn on the power supply the motherboard powers on itself!! I don't even have to connect the power up button from the case to the motherboard.

So the change in ram didn't help and I don't know why its powering on by itself just by turning on the power supply. The result is the same though. A blank screen that won't even boot to BIOS.

Also, I placed the D-link in for dianostics and it came up with these lights:

1 - yellow
2 - red
3 - red
4 - yellow

Can anyone tell me how to get my darn system working?? Is the MSI motherboard messed up or is there anything I can do to get things working properly?

PLEASE HELP!!!

Just want to make an edit. The lights for the dianostic D-links are:

1-yellow
2-orange - it looks abit reddish, but I guess it looks more orange I'd say
3-orange
4-yellow

I've already checked the manual and it doesn't say anything about the motherboard not being able to even post to the BIOS screen.

I've had this saved on my comp for awhile. They're for the K8N Neo Plat (s754) but the signals are probably the same:

4-Red = system hang, processor damaged or not installed properly

1-Green (top left) all others Red = Early Chipset Initialization

1-Green (top right) all others Red = Memory module damaged or not compatible

2-Green at top/2-red at bottom = BIOS image to RAM for quick boot

1-Green lower left = Initializing Keyboard Controller

2-Green left side = Testing VGA BIOS

Red upper left and lower right = CPU Initialization

1-Red lower right = Testing Real Time Clock

1-Green lower right = Initializing Video Interface

Green upper left and lower right = BIOS Sign-On

2-Red left side 2-Green right side = Testing Base and Extended Memory

1-Red lower left = Resource Assignment

2-Red top 2-Green bottom = Initializing Hard Drive Controller

1-Red upper right = Initializing Floppy Drive Controller

1-Red upper left = Boot Attempt

and all GREEN = Operating System Booting

So what do the following mean then?

1 - yellow
2 - orange
3 - orange
4 - yellow

I don't know what's wrong and I'm at wits end here! I've checked and rechecked and everything seems to be plugged in properly, so why won't it post?

I've had my machine come up with yellow lights. It just freezes and won't show anything on the screen. Thankfully holdingthe power switch for 6 (or more) seconds to power it down then turning it on again often gets it past the problem. One time I had to reboot this way several time to get it to work.

I have my motherboard outside as case, trying to get it to run stable. It seems like it isn't stable until the onboard tempature has leveled off. So, when it doesn't have yellow lights I'll go to the BIOS during bootup and stay in the HW monitoring option until the board has warmed up. If I don't it will freeze when I've finished booting Windows XP SP2.

I don't know about your problem in entirity, but a small portion of it I am familiar with. ... sounds like Yoda speak.. haha

Anyway, the problem where if you plug it in (power supply) it automatically turns on.. I had the same problem. The thing to do here is, whenever this happens, simply hit the power button once, and it should reboot itself correctly, at least mine did. But after I had all of these problems I rebuilt a SFF computer and sent my old K8N Neo2 platty back for an RMA.

Amazingly enough my machine now boots just fine every time, no freezes.

1) I "refreshed" the USB driver from the MSI driver CD.
2) I move my 2nd 512MB stick of memory from slot 3 to slot 2. So now I'm running dual channel.

I am running the 1.4 version BIOS. I've thought about upgrading to one of the later versions, but since I have a stable machine at the moment I'm not in a hurry.

Woohoo!! My first post!!!

Well I had the exact same problem that you are having GQSmoot where the computer wouldn't post and the screen stayed black, however, when I checked the diagnostics, it said that the memory was bad. So I took one out and my computer sprung back to life. I know you've already checked your RAM, but just letting you what happened in my situation.
