2 weeks ago, Natalia Russ told me that she would expedite my case and that Philips' next round of checks would go out on 12/20...and that mine would be among them. I have been pretty much holding my silence here during that time (until today anyway). I still haven't received it after 22 weeks.

So when I called today, I took a deep breath while I was on hold, and decided to be gentle, understanding and patient with the CSR, and to bite my tongue when I wanted to lash out at her. I ended up really pissed by the end of the call. All I wanted to know what whether or not the check was cut on the 20th. The CSR, after 22 weeks now, again told me "4-6 weeks." I asked for a supervisor. "Nina" came on the line and she was one RUDE as*wipe that constantly kept talking over me and barely let me get a word in. All she did was tell me that I had been given wrong information, and that all she could tell me was "4-6 weeks" from 12/7...I attempted to get her full name and was promptly hung up on. Next I call the phone number that Natalia Russ gave me (800-845-4500), and guess what? A FAX machine is now on that line. I have never seen such pathetic customer service in my life. There is just no excuse for such extensive incompetence. The LIARS and THIEVES at PHILIPS will NEVER see another nickel of my money when this is over <end venting>.

So, anyone have a working phone number for Natalia Russ???

Yes. I just went back through the thread and found that one. 770/821-2378 gives a 'fast busy' signal each time I try it. Looks like somebody doesn't want to be reached.

Philips isn't even taking phonecalls anymore.

Tried calling 1-800-531-0039
got recording saying they couldn't assist due to high call volume & then it hung up.

This stinks.

That's what I thought...I got the same "high call volume" recording for most of the past 2 days, but with persistence, you eventually get through...not that you'd want to. I spoke to Terry Fassburg's assistant, and she told me that the people at the toll-free number "don't know what they're talking about" and "don't listen to anything they tell you" and "they're terrible." I couldn't agree more.

Natalia Russ, one of the few people that can get these rebates expedited, is off until 1/1/02, and will be back on 1/2/02.

I was also told I'm in 12/20 batch of checks. My understanding was that on the 20th Philips sends out to check printers a batch of names/addresses. Checks get printed (likely within a day or two). After that they are stuffed into envelopes and mailed. The guy at Philips told me the whole process can take up to 2 business weeks + time in mail. So my best hope is around 1/10/02

Just got this from the FTC today in my email. Not quite sure what it means but it seems like they aren't going to do anything. Heh heh. It says they don't act on individual complaints but if they get a numebr ofcomplaints about the same thing, then they might. SO Everyone, Go fill out a complaint form at this site.

Dear Mike:

Thank you for your correspondence to the Federal Trade Commission regarding rebates offered by companies. Rebate offers and coupons are, among other things, a form of price competition. While some manufacturers or sellers may conclude that simple price discounts will attract customers, others may believe that a rebate or coupon program will be a more effective means of advertising substantial savings to consumers. In general, no statute enforced by the Commission addresses the decision to adopt a rebate or coupon program. Thus, promoters of rebate or coupon plans use their independent business judgment in offering such plans to distributors or to the public. However, if a company decides to offer a rebate or coupon plan, it must fully disclose the material terms and conditions of the offer and must provide the promised rebate. If a company systematically fails to do so, it may be engaging in deceptive or unfair practices in violation of Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act.

Finally, you may wish to raise your concerns with the manufacturers or companies who offer rebates or coupons, since many companies appreciate comments from the public about their products and how they are marketed. You should also note that many companies hire independent companies to administer their rebate or coupon programs and are eager to hear about their performance.

The Federal Trade Commission acts in the public interest to stop business practices that violate the laws it enforces. Letters from consumers and businesses are very important to the work of the Commission. They are often the first indication of a problem in the marketplace and may provide the initial evidence to begin an investigation. The Commission does not resolve individual complaints. The Commission does, however, act when it sees a pattern of possible violations developing. The decision to open up an investigative action depends on how widespread the practice is, how many consumers are hurt, how much harm is done, and how much evidence we have. We must also determine how much staff time and effort we can put into each case, and we must concentrate on the most urgent.

We appreciate your taking the time to write. We hope the above information has been useful to your situation.

Sincerely,

Consumer Response Center

I submitted a rebate (Intel PC Camera $80 from Staples) to rebatesHQ in late Sept and received the $80 on 12/26.

I also submitted the Philips CDRW reabte in Aug, have seen nothing yet.

IMHO, the whole thing about rebatesHQ messing up Philips reabtes is just a plain lie.

Now they just play the "sorry we are so busy" message at 800-531-0039 and hang up on you.

What a bunch of thugs.

I got my $100 rebate for my Philips 19" monitor today, . 8 weeks, no phone calls, hooray! Sounds like this CD-RW deal is an isolated incident, perhaps.

Just got my $40 CDRW that I sent in July. It took many e-mails and a couple of phone calls. The last e-mail to natalia.russ@philips.com got a response saying the check would be mailed within 48 hours and it was.
