Phunktion,

You would not happen to have the URL for that firmware update? I checked out Philips site and could not find any firmware updates.

Thanks,

Only firmware I could find was for the 12x not the 8x. Where did you find the firmware?

Guess I was just lucky. I got my $30 and $40 rebates within 2 weeks of each other. Forgot how long it has been since I got them, but I got both. Love my free Philips 8x/4x burner and free HP 12x/10x burner/DVD player. Thanks to all for helping me get them.

I got my $40 rebate from Phillips a few weeks ago just fine, w/o having to contact them. However, Staples botched my $30 instant rebate deal which I think is the only difference that ya'll might not have recieved it yet assuming the form was filled out correctly.

correct me if i am wrong
this firmware is for the 12x specifically(seamlesslink),
i doubt someone would flash it with the 8x burner:Q

The firmware flashing utility, for which the link has been provided, has included firmware for many of Philips' various CD-RW drives -- among them the 804k & the 1208. (8x & 12x)

Thus, the 8x firmware won't have to be used with the 12x, or vice versa. They're both included in the executable, and the firmware flashing utility makes the selection itself, depending on the model number it detects.

K?

Regarding the Philips $40 rebate, which this thread was previously focused on - a little more info. I think Philips is screwing around with us:

I've been trying to reach Lavada, Lynn or Keisha for a couple of days now - they are always either not in or "on the phone with another customer", and none of them have returned my calls. I have spoken to someone named Lanelle there twice, and I am quite disturbed by all of the questions that she can't answer and "doesn't have any information" on.

She claims that the processing center that originally handled the rebates CLOSED DOWN - Parago was handling them, and as far as I know, they are still in business. So personally, I think that's a lie...and I believe caught Lanelle in another lie already.

Next I told her that I had been given conflicting information - once I was told that Philips is handling the rebates in-house...then I was told that they have transferred the handling of the rebates to a rebate house in Medina, Ohio; the supervisor that I had spoken to some time back (Kelby) told me that he did not have a name of the rebate house. Very strange I thought.

Next, I told her that some people had concerns that people that DON'T call Philips and start a case would not receive their rebates; and again, Lanelle could not answer that question. However, the words she did say indicated to me that if you didn't call and start a case, you would get nothing (she did not explicitly state this - that is the impression I got - and I'm usually pretty good at reading between the lines).

Next I told her that I have been waiting a total of 16 weeks on my rebate, and 4 weeks from the time called and got a case number. She said that I need to wait 2 more weeks before 'anything happens'...I then asked her what happens in 2 weeks, and again, she could not give me an answer. Am I the only one that finds this extreme lack of information coming from Philips very disturbing? I'm going to give this 2 more weeks exactly, then it's time to get the Attorney General involved...and needless to say, Philips is another company that goes on my sh*t list, and that I wouldn't buy even a light bulb from (GE is another one that's been on that list for many years).

Guys,

It seems like you guys are satisfied with your philips cdrw 8x....as for me, it's another story. This thing seems to only burn in 4X and in simulation mode or if I go higher than that I get coasters. I tried all sorts of brand name media and generic ones. Same results ... coasters. ie, fuji 8x certified, maxell, and compusa generic. btw, I'm using Nero 5.5.3.0. My system is a celeron 300A/abitBX6rv2/256MBSDram/toshiba32x reader/300wPS.

It seems to me I already tried everything. I already flashed it with the latest firmware too. same result.

Any suggestions? thanks.

It seems you're down to a few light bulb vendors who are not in your :disgust: list. Time to stack up on candles, eh?

Yes. Very romantic.

Philips still has a couple of weeks to redeem themselves. GE on the other hand, royally screwed me multiple times on a refrigerator (no, not literally and it wasn't fun), and caused me a great deal of distress (years ago); haven't bought anything from them or any of their related companies (that I know of), for many years...and the great thing is that I have sought out and discovered some very nice alternative products in that time.

I've the same problem with my Celeron 400. But that was with Easy Cd-Creator 4.0 and only on Windows 2000. No problem if I use Windows 98. Right now its burning at 8x just fine using Nero 5.5.5.1 on T-Bird 950 Mhz running Windows XP.

Justincase

A couple of months ago when I called Parago to check on the status of my rebate, they told me that Phillips had failed to provide the funds that Parago needed to issue the rebate checks. The CSR told my that Parago was in the process of trying, for a second time, to get Phillips to supply the funds for the rebates. So, if you are correct and Parago is still in business, then Phillips is the culprit here.

Does anyone know if Parago is still in business?

I read that a while back as well...seems to be a lot of finger-pointing and few answers forthcoming, regarding this rebate. Something really smells here.

Yeah. Unless I'm mistaken, Parago processes tens of thousands of Staples rebates every month - those haven't stopped coming as far as I know. I haven't done Best Buy rebates until today...today I noticed that a number of my Best Buy rebates are going to McAllen, TX as well - the same location as Staples rebates. I assume that Parago is handling these as well...at this point, I'm skeptical of anything that Philips' reps are stating.
