After several calls, I also contacted Philips by email and received this response. I hope she keeps her promise.

<< Please email me your mailing address so I can re-process your rebate claim. I apoligize for your additional wait time.

Once I receive your address, I will forward that information to my fulfillment house where a check will be cut in the amount of $40. I know you have been waiting a long time already. I apologize for your inconvienance and will do everything in my power to make sure your rebate is sent out as soon as possible.

Sincere apologies,

I know this is way off-topic, but have any of you noticed that this PCRW804 drive cannot hold DMA settings? Was it ever able to? As I recall, in one piece of the documentation that Philips had posted several months ago, it said that if you flashed the firmware, DMA might be changed and if that happened you were supposed to shut down and do it again, but I think they were speaking of an older 4X model. Anyone know the answers?

I'm also having problems with this drive ... I can never burn more than 4x. I tried the firmware upgrades linked here, but it won't let me continue (keeps telling me I have a cd in the drive when I don't) and tells me to upgrade my ASPI when I try it in safe mode. SO AGGRAVATING ... does anyone have this problem? I'm running WinXP now ... Thanks

Mine does, under XP.

Re: 4x

Did you upgrade from 2k, perchance?

What OS did you flash it under, and was the drive the secondary master?

I flashed mine using 98, set as secondary Master with nothing else on the chain, and have had no problems using 8x with 98 or XP. (If your disk-in indicator flashed after doing the update, that might explain a few things...)

Rab, I did it under 98, and I don't remember where it resides...it's one of three drives and I'd have to crawl under my desk with flashlight so I'll give it a look-see tomorrow. What does the disk-in indicator mean when flashing? I was surprised actually, because I remembered that it would hold the DMA setting before, then I noticed it wasn't, and I can't remember what I did to change it. If you get a chance, please explain what the disk in indicator light means.

I'm planning on using this with an installation of XP in the near future, and I'm glad to hear that it is performing. Thanks ahead of time for the information.

This may explain what is happening with our rebates...

Philips may close U.S. Consumer Unit

Philips said earlier this year it would likely post its first annual loss since 1996 because of the worldwide slumping market for semiconductors and the depressed market for consumer electronics in the United States.

Good luck to us all!

smallfry nice find. According to the article, though, we have three years, at least, for this crew in North America to, "Give it a try," according to their CEO. Now that would be a record for getting a rebate filled.

I just called Philips and they said that even though I called 2 weeks ago and have a case number, they never forwarded my case to the right place. I informed customer service that we, on the Anandtech forum, have decided to call and check on our rebate every day. Sure we won't get our rebates any faster, but it'll annoy the heck out of them. If you talk to Kim, this really drives her crazy, but they have to take your call, and they're graded on how well they handle it.

Remember, the phone number is 1-800-531-0039, 1 for English, 5 for customer service. Only 1 minute hold time today.

Oh...nice to hear they're STILL doing this. It just goes to show that it is DELIBERATE, since they have been doing it that way for a couple of months now. They KNOW that nothing gets done until they forward it to the promotions department. You would think that a huge multi-national company like Philips would give a crap about their reputation, but it seems they don't care to take any steps to correct their deficiencies.

I give them an F minus. Anybody have anything lower? :Q

I sent an e-mail to this Natalia Russ person, and got the following reply...

Thank you for your email~

I have re-submitted your address and will have them cut you a check for $40. I am so sorry for your inconvienance and I assure you that you will receive your $40.

I know you have been waiting long enough already but thousands of names were "lost" during a transition of fulfillment companies. I hate to make you wait longer, but the reality is that we are looking at another couple of weeks. I know this is unacceptable but I did not want to make any more false promises. Again, please forgive us.

I emailed them on November 21 with my first email getting the claim numbers. One for me, one for girlfriend. Just checked girlfriend's email, and finally got a claim number for her's, I had gotten mine on the 1st, she got hers on the 13th. the claim numbers are 62499 apart. I emailed them within seconds of each other. Geez. So what should I do now? give em a call?

And the sad part is that they tell people it takes 2 - 4 weeks to process a rebate. This is so totally false it's unbelievable. Assuming they got a list of names from rebateshq.com, they simply need to take that list, input it into their ebate system and click the GO button and checks should start printing out.

I work for a bill payment company and we print tens of thousands of checks every day. No way it takes 2 - 4 weeks unless you are just slow and deliberately waiting to input the data. Philips is definitely a crap company when it comes to things like this. I doubt I'll be buying anything from them ever again.

I also emailed whats her name and got the same word for word email that everyone else got which it never mentions a date for rebates. I also contacted the BBB and sent a letter to Philips Corp. I'm sure it won't help but oh well, they alerady lost me as a customer.

Philips is trash. They have not handled this well AT ALL, and now, they're still going to have to pay us (or we'll file a class action suit or somethin'), but all they've accomplished by all these delays is lost customers. What stupid @$$ho!es.

Holy mother of all things large and small, folks, believe it or not, I got my rebate check today.
And only 5 months late :disgust:

I think that e-mailing Clark French, or this new Natalia broad is the best way to go - seemed to work for me.
Oh, and by the way, you're all welcome for that information!

Hoping that my GF calles tonight to tell me she has hers...er....um...my other one....as well

Good luck to you all, hope you get it soon.
