By the way, mine won't burn at 8x either. The buffer runs down to 0% within less than a minute of burning! And I am using Fuji 24x media.. I have WIN98SE and 128MB of RAM running EZCD 5.0 also. So now I just burn at 4x for both r and Wr disks.. kind of makes the CDrs useless--why not just always burn CDWR. But anyway I will try that firmware update, although it makes me a little nervous that I can't find it from the Philips website....

You need to update the hard driver firmware.Try:

I had the exact same problem burning above 4x and could not set dma. Now I burn at 8x with dma - no problems.
(I use an IBM ATA33 IWILL RAID setup and so am very happy now since I can burn with room to spare).

i received my rebate a while back. I didn't have any real problems except that they didnt seem to receive my paperwork. I called them nad they fixed it right up.

Philips sux.. JustinCase...in the "old" (lost...gone..where to ?? ..no one knows...) rebate tracking thread..where this topic should have been placed...(thank you mods for letting it stay around)..I said all that everyone else here has said..( dawman ..bro..I've got $160 in this Philips rebate...yah 4 drives bought at my insistence by family members...all the drives work at burning and reading Thank You Lord !!..so they ganged up on me..and I'm holding their paper on this operation :| cash out of my pocket ..I get to wait on Philips checks :disgust:...) and Philips( ALL of their products..even skipped that Hot monitor deal at Staples on the 107 model ) is on my " Hi..FTC?...yes I have a complaint......." list ( my first and only entry :Q ) to call on Dec12

Don't worry about giving them the serial number or anything, I just called up and gave them my home address and phone number and name and the guy then pulled up some info as to where I bought it from. So I think they have some sort of database with the info already and are verifying it as you call in. They have gotten a lot of calls from people off this board so they know why you are calling. I didn't have to talk to those other two people listed in the beginning of this thread either, I think all the people there are pretty much aware of what is going on. Hopefully I will get that 40 bucks, waiting on it since july.

They had NO record of me. My rebate was never even listed at the rebate site. I gave her all of my information and she gave me a case number. Thank God that I photocopied my receipt and my UPC symbol so that I have proof that I made the purchase. When (not if) I don't receive my rebate after the 4 weeks she said that I should wait, I'm going to call back and BITCH and YELL until I get confirmation that they will send my rebate out immediately. Also, I'm going to send a complaint to the BBB and to the FTC when my rebate fails to arrive. Screw Philips.

When I called to gripe about my rebate I told them that I won't be buying any more Philips products for this one reason. Of course they explained that Parago screwed up. So I explaind to them that THEY are ultimately responsible for paying their bills unless I can get away with:
"Dear American Express - I outsourced all of my bill paying to Parago. Unfortunately they mishandled my accounts so my payment will be 4 months late if you get it at all."

<< I don't know if Philips is the bad guy or Parago. However, Parago has handled all my other rebates (mostly from Staples) without any major problems. I have to call them for couple of my rebates but they were resolved after one call. >>

I called today and they said that an emil had been sent just this morning to some other internal department directing them to send me check. The CSR said I should get the check in 2-4 weeks. I'm not holding my breath but I am confident I will eventually get my rebate.

This thread makes it REALLY easy to file a complaint with the FTC...just copy/paste the info into the complaint form, add/edit a few words, and viola, you're done. EVERYBODY should file a complaint against Philips, or they'll just keep stalling and hanging on to OUR money.

Oh, and I agree...the problem is not Parago; it's definitely Philips. Philips' claim that Parago is out of business is a flat-out lie...just got another Parago email this morning, on a rebate sent a week ago...and another $140.00 check came from Parago/Staples yesterday.

man i just called philips and they stupid csr is like.."can i have ur serial number?"...i gave her the model number and upc number, date of purchase, etc. but she's like i can't further process it w/ out the serial number?!?!?!?!...omg..they're just yanking us around or something..DOWN with PHILIPS!!!

They called and left a message on my answering machine today saying my rebate should arrive in 1 to 2 weeks. We'll see.

Did you guys that GOT your rebate from Best Buy tell Philips you bought the CDRW at Best Buy too?
I don't think RebatesHQ dealt with rebates on that drive from Best Buy. I didn't get a RebatesHQ looking check when I got my rebate from BB. It looked like a BB check. So, I think Philips knows BB's rebates have been paid out OK. If you say they can see you in the database they have, they can check by your name and address if a check been sent by whoever handled that store's rebates for them.
If you check RebatesHQ status page, you don't see a rebate that's been paid out thru BB for $30.
So.......

I decided to leave a complaint with the FTC what Philips did was try and rip us off and see if we would just forget about our $40, I think that they ended up getting way too much of a response over this and they dropped a lot faster then they ever thought the would.

That's a load of manure...they can't ADD terms and conditions to a rebate AFTER you have submitted it. She may want to have your serial number, but the rebate cannot be denied on that basis if it was not required on the original form.

I personally made a copy of the entire sticker with the UPC and serial number prior to selling mine, but I'm sure a lot of people that EBAY'ed their drives didn't take note of the serial number - those people are still entitled to their rebates. Keep those FTC complaints rolling in - it only takes 5 minutes.

For those of you who are still waiting for the Philips 8x4x32 $40 rebate,
its been more than 4 weeks since I called their 800 number
I called again today and was told the same thing 4 weeks ago that i should receive the check in another 4 to 6 weeks.


WTF is going on with Philips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:|

I called them, too, just a minute ago and spoke to a Customer Care Rep named Kim. She said exactly the same thing: 4-6 more weeks. I asked for a supervisor and was told that no supervisor came in today. These folks are pitiful. How can they stand the abuse of customers calling day in and day out asking about the same thing?

If you really want a good answer tell them before they say anything that you are recording the message and ask them to say they understand and their name. You will get answers when you tell them that.
And at the end ask for a manger, if they say their is not one, ask when one will be their and you will play your message for them
You think I am joking try it and tell us what happens.
