This deal is dead. Provantage decided to not honor their pre-order price and has pulled out of the deal.

UNCONFIRMED BUT: apparently they've been sending out e-mails saying that they WOULD honor the pre-orders if you call and let them know your old order number.

Hey for anybody who missed out on the Buy.com deal, there's a store selling PNY 6800GT's for $332.00.

They expect a shipment in 12 days (July 26th). Here is the link:

its backordered at the moment, 12 days is when they expect their next shipment as OP mentioned. Upon closer inspection they do have a decent reseller rating, but it ould interest you to read some of these recent reviews from pricegrabber customers.

I know this place. They sometimes have the lowest priced stuff. I haven't ordered from them though.

I was able to score mine for 270 through Best Buy with gift credit and it's a BFG which IMO was worth the extra money. Provantage seems to have gotten their shipping issues in order - they used to charge OUTRAGEOUS shipping. 5.45 to VA isn't bad at all.

Hey, this looks like a great deal. The only thing I hesitate over, is whether or not the PNY card will be any good. Some people have commented that PNY has a reputation for selling crippled, underclocked, cheap products.

Thank you very much for this link. It is exactly what I wanted.

I am opting to wait until they are in stock to purchase it. Do you think the price will raise between now and then?

Some other deals might come along in 15 days.

PNY isn't underclocked .. its using the same components as the rest (all cards are coming from the same manufacturing facility and being branded right now) ...... only disadvantage compared to the other 2 available cards is ... the eVGA's come with FarCry (buy Doom3 /w the money saved instead) ... and the BFG comes pre-overclocked (20mhz on the core) .. but the PNY's will almost all OC to Ultra speeds anyways /w coolbits ........ also BFG offers a true lifetime warrenty where-as PNY's lifetime warrenty is rather "the lifetime of the card as long as PNY still makes it"

that being said .. i have an order i'm waiting on from Buy.com

I wasn't flaming or anything, I was just saying I have heard alot of anti pny talk around here. However if this card is the same I am all over it. I just worry about this company a little bit.

Well, you could purchase it at this price and if something better comes along, then cancel.

Don't know about the PNY talk except for the "fake" lifetime warranty.
As digitalemperor said, they most likely have the same components right now except for some minor tweaking. I would still expect BFG and the other manufactures to beat the PNY (very) slightly in tests.

Well I did the math. $255 is a good deal for a 6800 regular, which is what I am in the market to buy. The GT outperforms the Regular by 32% according to these benchmarks

http://www.hkepc.com/hwdb/6800nugt-4.htm

And the GT is priced only 30% higher than the Non GT. So i would be a fool to not get this much bang for my buck.

I placed an order for 337.50 shipped.

Well, right now I have a BBA 9800 pro, and even that doesnt have a REAL lifetime warranty. Considering the short lives of these cards I dont really need a lifetime warranty
I woudl say that if the warranty lasts 3 - 5 years it is fine.

Do you guys think that we will see more prices like this in the next month? Or would it be better to jump on this right now?

That's pretty hard to say. For the performance level however, this is not a bad price.

My bet would be that we will see the GT prices fluctuate from around this point back up to 400$ for a few months at least. I doubt that it will hit 300$ until after xmas, with the exception of a possible black friday sale, which I certaintly would not count on.

I will almost definitley order one of these.

Provantage is a good store. They've been around for many many years and I've ordered from them quite a few times. That's a DANG good price. I would jump all over that if only I didn't need the ability to use SoftQuadro to do my CG work.

And now, 2 minutes later, the price has changed again. Now it's $339.67.

Not sure what is going on here...

Holy crap, I just added the thing to my cart to test how much shipping charges would be. To washington state, they are listing shipping of $70.70!

And that's for UPS ground shipping. They list even more expensive shipping for faster methods.

Something's wrong with this company.

[I'm editting this message a bit later. The shipping price being quoted has now gone down to $7, which is certainly more reasonable. Looks like they've having a bunch of glitches in their system]

Good deal, although may need a little luck. Tried to buy from this company 2 times. Each item was backordered and they kept on telling me it would arrive in 1 week. About 2 months later I cancelled my orders. It was easy to cancel my order at least.
