Easy Goldentiger, icecube said 'my streak of never being screwed (or screwing others)' ... I interpreted this as him saying he had a streak of 'never ...' screwing others, which is how everyone should act in their buisness transactions.

I love it...10 people post to complain about this being off-topic and whiney (sp?) and provide continuous bumps so that even more people can see it and perpetuate it. If it's so off topic just email the mods. It's not killing anybody and it would quickly sink if people stopped posting.

Now look what you made me do...yet another bump

Hate to tell you but the seller has the option of not selling to the bidder. E*ay doesn't like the idea, but they realize that people change their mind. If it happens more than once, they get a warning, two or more times they might be suspended, after that they get banned.I don't condone that practice, but the only recourse for you is to leave negative feedback.

I sympathize with you but this should be in another area..... try off topic you will still get more responses than you'd ever want...... Be glad your not on the other side of the DEAL. I was selling a PS2 and I I got screwed 3 times.... two people bailed.... And one guy swears his 11 yr old son bid on it..... and he swore he would cover my listing fees... never happened

POST IT SOMEWHERE ELSE.....

Keep in mind that e*bay likes sellers more than buyers. It takes massive fraud to get booted there. Forget about it.

I'm sure you are sad for your loss, but they will still have to pay listing and selling fees to fleabay, plus risk negative feedback from you to boot. Personally I'd just go looking again and skip the feedback as it seems to come back to haunt you, but to each their own.

As others have said, be glad you didn't acutally lose MONEY w/no merchandise or send out stuff without getting paid for it - THAT is being screwed on fleabay.

Oh and by the way - a lot of people come to Off Topic to complain about fleabay, you might want to try there.

here is an idea...
if you don't care for your fleabay i.d., hunt this guy down. Every time he offers something for sell bid it up and buy it. Then mess him around for a while and don't end up buying it...about all you can do...fleabay is dumb b/c they claim it is a contract but they never hold anyone to it...yeah some people have lost big bucks on fleabay, just be glad this person hasn't taken your money

Hi guys,

Sorry for the misleading title--I didn't even think about it. Ok, I didn't get "screwed", I got mislead.

I just wanted to see what kind of recourse I had, and I want to thank everyone for their advice.

For those that have nothing nice to say, I again apologize, but it still amazes me that you read the title of the post, know that it's not a hot deal, and then come and waste time and insult me anyway! That's ok--I have thick skin (not literally).

And yes, I meant that my streak of NOT getting and screwed and NOT screwing people is over (thanks AtomSmasher!) I bend over backwards to please the people I deal with online because I think it is amazing that people trust others they have never met. I make sure NEVER to abuse this trust.

Thanks again for all of the advice.

And I really think that those who come into a thread only to flame should really lighten up.

But that's just my opinion...

I'd say contact eGay and do whatever advice eGay gives you. That way, should the worst happen -- like the seller giving you negative feedback in retaliation -- you can ask eGay to request to remove the negative feedback. Good luck.

I have very little sympathy, because you didn't lose any $$$, but implied money. Just leave a clearly worded NEG and call it a day.

Best thing you can do is just give negative feedback. This way the next person knows what to expect.

I have some faith in e*Bay, but I rarely buy from anyone without feedback greater than 30. In fact, I try to bid with the person that has the best feedback. I have found that if it is too good to be true, it probably is. I feel for you though... Best thing you can do is leave negative feedback and file a fraud report.

There have been times where I didn't want to sell an item for what it bid for, but I always followed through. e*Bay knows that if sellers backed out of deals right and left, then the buyers would lose interest, and the whole scheme would fall apart. Put a dent in this guys rep. No matter his situation, he entered a binding contract to sell the item. You are in the right, and even if he leaves you negative feedback in response, you will be able to clear it up. He deserves negative feedback, so make sure you warn others about him.

As far as getting what is coming to you in the deal, you are probably out of luck. It sucks, but it happens. Like others have said, be glad you didn't lose money.

Best of luck out there.

Making sure that no one else has to go through this again is really the ONLY thing I'm hoping will happen. That may be hoping too much. Anyway, I've learned quite a bit more since my post.

1) My winning bid may be approximately $300-400 less than this system goes for retail (it is a brand new system--but far below the highest mHz available now).

2) He already listed this item once before with a reserve, which was not met. The high bid in that auction was approximately $1000. My winning bid was $850. Guess who my competitor was in the auction? One of the high bidders from the original auction. Why he didn't bid at the same level of the original auction is beyond me...

It seems pretty obvious that someone else (probably this other bidder) e-mailed the seller after the auction (and after he sent me the original e-mail asking for payment/shipping information) and offered him more $$$.

The seller doesn't believe in responsibility, and he made up this great story, hoping I would back off (possibly without even giving him negative feedback).

I just don't like that people do this and often get away with it. I want to make an example of this person, in the naive that I can make a difference for someone else down the line.

Thanks again to everyone who posted great information! I never would have thought to request good feedback from him first before posting negative feedback (sly, but called for under the circumstances)

ps...moocat is right--thanks also to everyone who came in here to flame me only to bump the post for the nice people who posted good info!

Devote a whole web site to how this guy mislead you, post emails, etc., and then point to it from your negative feedback. This would accomplish alot more than you can in the 100 or so characters they allow you to leave in feedback...I'm currently recovering from having been screwed and may have to do this to the seller who took my money.

Note to rgwalt: Seller had 70+ positive feedbacks and then turned evil all at once, stiffing numerous people. I guess you're always taking a chance. Like they say, if it's too good to be true, it probably is. Best recourse: since I used Paypal, I can charge back on my credit card.

Gosh you are putting an awful lot of energy into this, I think you'll come to find out it really isn't worth it. Some scary folks out there, I happend on this one from fleabay (from the link where you can read little snippets of personal information about the seller) where he'd set up an entire WEBSITE devoted to "snipers" as he calls them - the folks that run in during the last 11 seconds of an auction and place a large bid. Like a bad trader list, he keeps on of all the auctions he has been "sniped" out of - please!

There are no good deals on computer stuff at e bay. Why even bother. Plus look at the seller's feedback. I'm sure the seller in this case didn't have a lot of good feedback. Why would you buy a used computer from an anonymous person on an internet auction?
