I bought this drive for $100 during the anniversary sale a few weeks ago. Later, I upgraded the warranty to 3yrs for $15 at the WD website. Yes, that cools the deal, but I've killed a hard drive before and it was nice (and cheaper) to be able to replace it under warranty.

To those whom the warranty matters, you can get an additional 2 years (for the full 3 years of warranty) for $15 from the Western Digital website. And, for Maxtor drives I was unable to obtain information from their website, but I have heard you can get the additional 2 years for $20.
If warranty matters, and you don't want to pass up on a good deal, that way is probably best.
If you are brand loyal, or are going based on specific reviews, then it's a different case.

Anyway, back to the deal. CooNb, you should edit your title to show that you have to add tax + a minimum of $5.00 shipping and it's online only.[/quote]

Done! Although I never pay taxes cause I live in one of the sales tax free states...

A little off topic here but, how much preformance would I loose if I got two of these in raid-0.
I'm looking to get 400-500gigs of storage for some video editing, I know that the 8mb cache helps with small-medium files; but would it help capturing raw video? This will be my first raid setup, probably not needed but I want all of the space on one partition and I have a raid controller lying around.
I just missed out on compusa's 250gb WD SE's(was that a one day sale or what?) and I was going to see want everyone had coming up in this weekend's specials. But this is a nice deal, as long as the rebates' go through.

Thanks,

On the first question, I meant how much preformance lost from two 8mb cache drives' and two, 2mb cache drive's in a raid 0 setup.

I'm in on this deal. Gonna be $121 after rebate (with tax and shipping). This'll be perfect for my server.

Thanks!

I do not have any kind of RAID so I have no idea but I think I'd buy three and run a RAID5 if I were to make a RAID.

I think maybe the drive is too big for me that I will need a controller card for it?

I would have gotten one but don't like CompUSA rebates. They take forever!! I got mine in March for something that I sent out in November of last year.

It's a Manufacturer's MIR not a CompUSA MIR.

Just got the last one at my local B&M.

$229.99 + 13.80 tax = $243.79 out the door - $100 rebate = 143.79 FINAL

Also, for those who ordered it, it's really a 180GB drive (model WD1800BB). The 175GB was a CompUSA marketing ploy to keep people from pricematching to other stores and getting them cheaper there.

I think the title is wrong. It's sold out online, but they may have it localling in B&M.

anyone else get an email who ordered this saying that the original rebate posted was incorrect? Compusa sent me a new link (http://media.compusa.com/pdfs/CU042203_175GB_100_MIR.pdf) which looks to be also incorrect. The second half the rebate talks about the 40GB drive when its the 175GB drive purchased.

Also, the model number listed on the email was WD1750BBRTL, NOT the 1800BB.

Does that one say it had 8mb cache? That is the one they pulled from the site and replaced with this other one.
