Update: TDK 12/10/32 Rebate issue with Buy.com

It is CONFIRMED that TDK is NOT honoring the $50 rebate for purchases (between 01/01/01 - 03/31/01) of the 12x/10x/32x VeloCD from Buy.com

I called the rebate center of TDK (1-800-835-8273) and I spoke with a person named Diane Wilshire. She specifically stated that Buy.com WAS a 'Participating Retailer' up until the rebate ended on 12/31/00, but chose to NOT be when they extended the rebate. This makes no sense, but the fact remains.

I also called Buy.com (1-888-880-1030) and spoke to an Eric, said he wasn't allowed to give last name, who did say he was a 'Resolution Specialist' in the Oklahoma office. He was miffed to why they were no longer a participation retailer as well and said he would investigate the matter and get back to me.

Call #3 Went to Citibank to dispute the $50 rebate. They put the dispute on record and will investigate. In the meantime they've already issued me $50 credit! This is where the importance of having a reliable CC company comes in yet again!

Yes, I contacted my CC (Citibank) and told them the situation with the rebate. I told them that I purchased this item under the understanding that there would be a $50 rebate from manufacturer and that it now seems this is not the case.

The Rep at that point put a note on the account to dispute the amount of $50 against the balance ($210) and credited me the difference until verification.

There's no gimmicks or loopholes I have to deal with when I speak to Citibank, they just back me up. This is why I've been a loyal customer to them for the passed 10 years.

I called TDK and confirmed what I just read above. Next I called Buy.com and complained. They, very politely, credited me $50.00. I would have hated to return this drive as it kicks but.

you guys are pathectic. buy.com did not even advertise for the new rebate and you expect them to pay for it. you should have checked first (as you should with any rebate) on the details. assume to much and you get burned...as you should have.

buy.com is a good store, but you people take advantage of it and in the end....when it's gone...you'll realize how much it sucks to go to a B&amp;M store (price wise)

Oddly enough, if you check the discussion on the TDK drives over at Ben's Bargains, one person &quot;confirmed&quot; that TDK is honoring the rebates when purchased from Buy.com, which is why I ordered the drive. Seems like I'm gonna have to cancel the order tho, since everyone else seems to say otherwise...

THIS IS PISSING ME OFF! I called Buy.com BEFORE ordering the TDK drie and they said they were supporting the rebate. I purchased my drive on 1/16/01. I called them the day before. Someone owes me $50!

I just got a call back from Eric at buy.com, he's telling me the same story...Buy.com is NOT a participating retailer in the current rebate!

This is getting uglier by the minute.

that $10 rebate for the CDRs that came in a bundle with the VeloCD deal is a different story in itself.

I wish you luck on that one, I understand TDK won't be honoring that either...Since it was bundled with the CDRW drive.

Namuna, I don't recall who I spoke to. It was a lady, and that is all. I DID NOT get a name and now I'm KILLING myself for not doing so!! AAAAHHHH. I will try to call my credit card company and find out what I can do... I may end up returning the TDK drive, but now there is a hole in the bottom of the box, since I just sent the rebate offer in already! DOH!

I feel bad for those people who ordered the drive from Necx and had to return it because they were not a participating retailer, and then proceeded to order from buy.com, only to find out now that the rebate won't be honored there either. Life sucks.

For those who really want this drive, and at buy.com's price, there is a work around. Some may consider it shady, and i'm sure anand's mod's wouldn't approve......I think stonerdave may have already worked it out himself. I myself have ensured that I receive my rebate. PM for details.

But for us folks that have already sent out the chunk of cardboard UPC (that they DON'T accept copies of) we're SCREWED!
