It does not say anywhere. Ya, it would have been easy for me to alter, but I did not. Nothing to prove by it. I am in the same boat. Let's hope it comes through. Otherwise, I will never by TDK again.

just got off the phone with buy.com csr.he said he wasn't authorized to credit anything back to my credit card,but he would try and get me $20.00 credit, after talking to his super. some time later he came back and said no go, buycom wasn't participating in the promo after 12/31/00. i have the tdk form from their website on 1/06/01 and it has been changed since then.i told tdk csr yesterday that i had a rebate form that did not include or exclude anybody and that i used this form to mail in rebate for $50.00. he said i am out of luck because they will not honor it. looks like i'm gonna be making some more phone calls tomorrow.

for the last couple of days i've been reading how TDK will not honor their $50 MIR if you bought the CDRW from a "non participating retailer" such as NECX or buy.com. and as a result, they have taken the original MIR from their website and posted a newer one with "participating retailer" requirement at

I came across the same $50 MIR with no "participating retailer" requirement. Here it is:

Also if you called TDK customer service rep at 1-800-835-8273 and explained that you have bought the CDRW after reading the "original" MIR, TDK rep says that they will honor it.

The first CNET link shows BUY.com and GATEWAY (my case) prices
also shows the link to the rebate.
The linked rebate only mentions qualified purchases, none of that other gibberish

I will be mailing all the above

Something that may have got lost in the controversy:
(People do seem more familiar with BUY.com and Staples and were questioning NECX)
I do wish to credit Gateway/NECX for great handling of my order-fast with nice UPS tracking linkage on their site.
They also accepted my Canadian credit card without the fuss of the others

On 1/8 I bought tdk drive from buycom. I also downloaded the offical rebate form from http://www.tdk.com/rebate/rebatevelo.html on same day. 2 pages and no where does it say anything about purchasing it from a participating retailer. I have a original and a copy of form. Is tdk a disonest company that would cheat customers? I complied with every item on the rebate form and expect tdk to uphold their end of the agreement. Or can you say "class action law suit" I hate to be cheated!!

There is a workaround if you dont mind being dishonest and have an extra $300 you can use for a couple of hours. We are all adults I think we can figure out what the work around is. I did it and I expect my rebate in 6 months or whatever it is. Don't get so pissed off you forget to see the bigger picture.

Ok, if cnet has this coupon listed on their site along with a list of retailers, wouldn't you think that this constitutes "participating retailers"?
