Namua - That my friend, is the sad truth to this whole thing. Kinda sucks TDK gave out so much conflicting info in the beginning.

For those who still have the drive on order, or just received it, you can still "work" something out. If you haven't sent the rebate in yet, don't return it!!!

Well, I don't know who Ribbit talked to but after bitching up a storm I was offered $25 credit.

I'm still COMPLETELY POed about this, Buy.com says they aren't responsible because they took advertisement for the rebate off. TDK says they aren't responsible because Buy.com decided not to maintain participation!

And worst of all, i called my Credit Card company back and they said they actually can't do anything to dispute this charge because it's based on a Rebate.

This good deal at $161 (after tax and shipping) just turned into something I would've passed on at $186.

GoldenTiger,
HELLLLLOOOO! Did you READ ANY OF THE MESSAGES here! I've been TALKING to the Buy.com people AND TDK people! If you purchased your TDK drive on or BEFORE 12/31/00 then you're FINE!

If you bought the drive AFTER THAT, you are SCREWED! Buy.com is NO LONGER participating in the rebate!!!!!!

And if you STILL DON'T BELIEVE, then call the same steeenkin numbers and speak to the same SPECIFIC people I did!

I'm already pissed enough about this situation to have to deal with people saying this is a rumor!

This was yanked from another board...

I just got off the phone w/buy.com CSR. Talked with him a bit, complained a little, and he ended up giving me $20 credit. It's not $50 but it's something. Now if I can just figure out a way to get the $50 from TDK!!

Namuna........Namuna......

well, am i right are not about some people being pathetic (seems to include you).....even though he never said you SHOULD CALL buy.com......

WHAT...do you think the end result was?? (answered by one of you own post)......"called and bitch....blah blah blah"

when things are in your favor you are all about the technical details of laws and stuff and how you got cheated and the company has to honor it, but when it comes to you being burned, you guys whine and whine even though technically, you are the ones to blame.

if you can't afford to buy something without the rebate.....then don't buy it.

like i said, if you didn't take the time to find out about the rebate and it's guidelines, then you should get burned.....

it's not buy.com's fault that they no longer participate in the rebate.....why should they have to pay for your over zealous attempts at getting the cheapest deal you could. (don't tell me you didn't use the $30 off coupon either)

you made the mistake not them....so in other words, you should pay for your on mistake...

you even say yourself...buy.com took the TDK rebate off the site.....so you people bitching about them not honoring it....ummm....duh...

maybe you should read post more carefully next time.......

I too have Citibank, and they immediately gave me a conditional credit while they send me the forms. This does not mean I get to keep the credit.

:disgust: This mess makes me even more wary of rebates.

BTW: I also heard the $10 rebate for the media is not being honored because it was not a separate item, but part of a bundle.

Designgirl.

Who the hell invited you to come in here and get on your sanctimonious high horse and bitch to us about Bargain Hunting ethics? And you know what else, NO ONE who's posted to this thread appreciates your likely HYPOCRITICAL and largely ILLITERATE blabbering.

If you want to continue this little diatribe, I INVITE you to PM me. I, unlike you, aren't looking for an audience.

But I doubt I'll be seeing any messages from you.

Timothy,
Unless you can provide some kind of proof that Buy.com misled you to believe you'd be getting the rebate...You'll be told (like I was) that they can't dispute the charge.

well, namaurarn (oopss....i'm illiterate)

anyways, your right that i won't PM you. and i'm not talking from any high horse. i got on the TDK deal (the previous rebate)

but you know what, i found out for sure first that i would be getting it, then i bought the drive. deal hunting is fine, i have no problem with it. do it all the time.

but then you know as deal hunting goes.......sometimes you get burned.

just think everybody forgets.....it's not always the companys fault....everybody here flies to deals like vultures without ever really taking care. just saying...watch out.

and again...sometimes you should blame yourself for getting screwed...not the other guy (in this case buy.com).

Sorry I didn't respond sooner-lunch break. I spoke with a customer service rep. and don't recall her name. I explained the situation to her, she contacted there finance department, returned and said that I had been credited $50.00 and apologized for any inconvenience. Perhaps had I called with a tude the response would have been different.

Not to add fuel to the fire, bit let's see if I remember a past order from Buy.com. UMAX offered an $80 rebate, when one purchased their Astra 3400 and the Lexmark Z22 (Z42 or Z52). I purchased both from Buy.com (10/25/00), used a coupon, and still received my $80 rebate. If memory serves me well (please correct if wrong), no mention of a rebate was posted on the description of each item (before I placed them in the cart). Just filled out the UMAX form, sent in my receipt (showing both items)/UPC symbols for both, and received the rebate rather quickly.

Now comes this TDK/Buy.com fiasco. I too ordered the TDK late (1/13/01), so we'll see if I mysteriously receive it. Guess I shouldn't have cancelled my backordered Iomega CDRW from CompUsa.

Better.

RandyE,
It's nice to hope, and prudent to act.

True, that's very true Namuna. I hope it works out for everyone. I wasn't trying to condone misuse of the rebate or anything, but it's really odd (and sh!tty) to see tdk pull this kind of stunt, not good for consumers at all...

Hey Guys,

I ordered mine from buy.com on 1-15 and got it on 1-17.

The rebate form I downloaded that day does NOT say anywhere that the purchase must be made at a "participating dealer".

I sent it off and kept copies, maybe I am Ok, or at least have a good basis for complaint.

It says "may be" This does not mean it "must be!" Ha well I guess I will wait to see if I ever get my rebate.

I have to agree with 'nexialist' in regards to the earlier TDK rebate form. When I purchased it on 1/13/01, the rebate form I used didn't show 'Product may be purchased from any participating retailer'. Even photocopied it. So maybe I'll still receive it due to this technicality. One can only hope.

I downloaded the rebate form from TDK on 1/5/01, the day jskibo posted the deal details and the day I ordered the drive, and mine does not say "Product may be purchased from any participating retailer."

They changed the form and added that sentence some time after that date and many people here who also were early probably have the same rebate form. People who ordered the drive and downloaded the form on the weekend of 1/5/01 should check their forms to be sure. Don't just assume that it says what the new one says. Also be sure to make a copy of everything, including the rebate form, before you send it in.

I don't see why anyone would think it's "pathetic" for people to expect TDK to live up to their own rebate rules. Vendors and manufacturers expect me to pay for their products and I expect them to live up to the terms of the deal. If the form I got from TDK doesn't place any vendor restrictions, that's not my fault.

RandyE,
To reiterate...if you DIDN'T get the form from www.tdk.com/rebate then the form is NOT valid!!!

Anybody can take the original, remove the pieces in question and repost to whatever site!

Do NOT be fooled, TDK knows what they put out (or not)...'Fudging' the form isn't going to persuade them...As a matter of fact, you could get into A LOT of trouble with 'fudged' forms!

Extro,

If that's true, do you have a PRINTED copy that has the URL and Date on the page? And if so, can you send me a copy? I would be GREATLY appreciative!

We ALL have a leg to stand on to fight if you do!

Thanks.
