Update: TDK 12/10/32 Rebate issue with Buy.com

Folks, I started this thread to hopefully get some people together to help each other with this BIG TIME BULL situation.

For the people that still think this is a rumor (even though I've posted numbers and names), well you'll see in 8 to 10 weeks when there's no rebate check. And for the people that say they've talked to persons at the TDK or the retailer that say this is still going to work...How about some names!

Let's look at a scenerio:
"Yes your honor, we are here today to file suit against TDK/Buy.com/NECx/whoever because they have fraudulently led us to believe we would be getting a rebate. Our proof is that we called people, but we don't remember who we called and we have a copy (that may or may not be forged) of the rebate form that does not say item must be purchased from a participating retailer."

PROOF people, if we're going to help each other there HAS TO BE proof!!! Names, phone numbers, SCANNED DOCUMENTS WITH URL AND DATES!!!

I just talked to a Lucy at TDK,and she stated that people who sent in for the rebate with the old rebate form stating no conditons, might get the rebate. It is out of their hands and being paid by a third party rebate center. There is no sure thing and at best is iffy. She stated that Buy Com was supposed to pull their rebate at the end of Dec, since they had decided not to participate in the rebate. I have a RMA with Buy Com and probably will send it back, since $60 is too much to gamble with. I am going to miss this burner, it is a whole different lever of burning. Buy Com definitely isn't participating in the rebate after Dec 31!!! Take that to the bank.

So what am I to do? I have already sent in the rebate. But now I'm stuck with the drive, or can I return it to buy.com? I'M STILL PISSED OFF!!!!!

I think that buy.com will take a return without the UPC but there will be a $35 re-boxing fee.

Another testimony: I also called up TDK last week and asked if Buy.com was a participating retailer and got a "yes". I think there's seriously something wrong if their own CSRs are the source of this sort of misinformation.

Interesting, TDK has pulled the VeloCD rebate form from their webpage.

Not good.

Very interesting that they pulled it from their site. There are going to be a lot of headaches on this one.

It now says this in the TDK store:

12X/10X/32X CD ReWriter with 32X Digital
Audio Extraction.
$229 with mail-in rebate if purchased before
March 31, 2001.
Rebate form can be attained from TDK
Customer Service.
