update Uvuntu Linux via USB drive?

I was able to download a CD version of Ubuntu linux and get it installed on my machine. It is my understanding that there is quite a bit more than can be added for a full install (typical with DVD). I would like to update to the DVD level, but only have a Simpletech USB drive. How would one go about this?

There's no such thing as a "full install", including universe and multiverse there's over 20,000 packages and a number of them conflict with each other (i.e. sendmail, postfix, exim, etc). I believe the install that you get from the CD is the same as the one from the DVD except that the DVD has more stuff locally so that if you decide to install KDE you don't have to download it during the initial installation.

Yeah. That is what I am looking for. I want the full install for just that reason. I want to install a number of the packages, and since I have no internet at home (sigh), I cannot get them. I was hoping there was a way to download to a USB flash drive, and cue Ubuntu to look there. Is that possible?

Sure, but you'd have to generate the appropriate files to make the USB drive a repository. Something like debmirror could be used to create a local mirror for you if you have access to the Internet at some point.
