Sorry to hear this but try to look at it in a positive way - 85 is an amazing age to reach, she has probably lived a wonderful life. I'm sure she's proud and happy to have a son like you be with her through this. Best wishes from me as well.

She is 85 and dying from COPD and chronic pain. As her oxygen levels decline her pain increases. Her will and desire to live have totally left her and only her strong heart remains.
She is being cared for in her home by hospice and family. I sit here today before I go see her in the morning, wondering what and how we will do in her absence. I want only peace and an end to the suffering for her, and hold no illusions that she will just get better.
We have sat with her these last ten days, patiently waiting for her to grace us with her wit and tell us another story. The telling seems to bring life back into her eyes, and for a brief moment she is herself again.

We are all here and although the focus is certainly on mom, we are also chatting about everything and sitting in her room. It was very hard to arrive and sit down between my brother and sister this morning, and the waves of emotion just washed over me. I told her I loved her and knew she loved me and it was OK to go. I am sure she heard me, though she is unresponsive.
She sleeps now, we wait. Thank you all for your kindest words and thoughts.

Damn I'm sorry. I don't know what I would do if my mother died.
