Update your Linksys router firmware...

OK, this isn't new news, since this update is dated 6/22, but I always forget about updating the router (since it's in the closet and all...)

Get the newest fimware here..

The last 2 updates have been great for anyone with DSL & PPPoE. I havent had to do a hard reset on it since.

yea make sure you write down your host name if your cable/dsl requires it, i had to hook up the modem when i upgraded firmware to get my host

crzyc, can you educate a networking newbie about what you mean when you said to write down the host name b4 you flash the router firmware. I'll be getting a Linksys router for cable sharing later this month, and I'm eager to learn from your experience.

Also, if you have any good links for primers on cable and router use I'd appreciate seeing them.

I thought you were only suppose to update the firmware if it wasnt working right for you. I havent updated since I've bought mine, any new features for cable users since 1 1/2 yrs ago?

Last timei ran a firmware update on my router my speed went up! Im on DSL using PPPoE so im gonna go install this one in a few minutes.

I'm using the new 1.39 firmware and it still has problems with hosting IP games of Madden Football, but that's the only problem I have with it. It works great.

For a complete list, download the firmware and view the ver.txt file.

Redwindguy, You may want to read it and see if any of the updates apply to you. There has been a slew of them in the last year so you may at least get a performance increase.

I just updated mine and now its letting me run my Half Life server, was 1.37 before and wouldnt work, plus I've noticed a better ping times with servers I was running prior, so it did help.
