The rebate form states the purchase must be made between 9/3/04 and 9/7/04. You must have the forms, receipt, and UPC in the mail on or before 10/7/04.

Edit: Called and got it fixed with no problem. Turns out it was only $2 less.

Most drives are made in China now, and what a joke that is. China has always made crap and still makes crap. I have had more electronics failures in the past 5 years then my entire life previous, and I am talking about a failure rate. over 90% of those failures were with China made stuff. It is sad, but true. China currently makes crap. Taiwan is ok, but mainland China = unreliable.

The silver lining is that hopefully this trend will continue and when the war comes their armaments will fail so much it will cripple them..

Got one at Frys LA. $60. But one year warrenty. For $60 and 200gb I cant really complain though. I decided to risk it.

I bought one (along with a USB2/Firewire external enclosure for it) and when I plug in the serial number, it comes back as a 5-year warranty (original warranty date is 8/23/04), so I'm good to go as far as the warranty issue is concerned.

Whether it be 1 year or 5 year warranty, it's still a very good deal. I got one and I don't even have a use for it yet. I'll probably end up throwing it in an xbox that I plan to put xbox media player on.

Yes. This'll give you 224 hours at basic quality, 61 at best quality.

The only thing keeping me from this deal is my desire to switch my older hard drives and mobo out for SATA. I just don't like the cables and IDE interface anymore. Now if I can just hold onto that idea...its tempting since I am close to two Fry's.

The new silver Tivos support virtually unlimited drive sizes without any hacks.

If you have an older Tivo, you can upgrade to a newer kernel to support larger drive sizes.
