Thanks, I got in on this one. I now officially have too much hard drive storage space. For 3 computers I have:
AMD Athlon XP Barton 3200+ 8MB/200GB ATA Seagate (this will get the new drive)
AMD Athlon Tbird 900 2MB/30GB Quantum (bought by Maxtor) & 2MB/60GB Maxtor
AMD Athlon XP Tbred 2000+ 2MB/120GB ATA Seagate (this will get the drive that is currently in the first machine, replacing a Maxtor 2MB/40GB 5400 RPM Maxtor)

OOS online. They said a shipment was coming in sometime this week. Guess they can't invoice you for something that is not in stock so it would not qualify for the rebate.

I ordered online last night after it was OOS. I just called customer service and they said they just received word today that the rebate WILL BE VALID. He was very clear on this.

I just called customer service again and they are backordered till 9/9/04.

The customer service rep. said she would mail me a PO so I will qualify for the rebate.

Sorry if I mislead anyone but the first customer service rep. said I would not qualify for the rebate.

I got 128Gig too. From the Seagate CD run the windows drive wizard...

It will say something like, your os won't recognise 200Gig drives. And it writes something to the registry ... Then it reboots... Now I am formatting @ 186.31 Gigs. Hope that is right? I hate multi partitions... So I just made one big one. Using win2K Pro.

They cancelled my order and the guy with 1800-outpost was very rude to me. I asked to talk to his manager, then he said he couldn't do that and that there were only 3 other people working with him all on the phones. Jerk*

Anyway, why did no one goto NewEgg.com to order this. It was a Seagate Rebate, not an Outpost.com rebate.

*I ordered 2 items and paid overnight. The hard drive was canceled, but the wireless router I bought is still being shipped overnight for $20! If I had known vendors could cancel orders midway, then I would have not upgraded my shipping. I just checked the shipping status and the item is already with DHL shipping. I don't think I can cancel it anymore. Anybody else have this problem? Thanks for the good deal alert, this is my first post. Too bad I had a bad experience. Better luck next time.

EDIT: I just called 1800-outpost and had my entire order canceled. They wanted to charge me the shipping still, but I gave them a little fuss and I got the $14 credit back to me.

Oupost and Fry's are terrific. If they run out of Hard drives, THEY RUN OUT OF HARD DRIVES. What do you want them to do? Build the hard drives themselves?

They started with over 6,000 of them. Were sold out in a very short period of time. If you missed out on them that is just too bad.

THEY SELL 10'S OF THOUSANDS OF PRODUCTS AND ON THIS ONE HARD DRIVE THEY HAD TO PROCESS OVER $700,000 IN SALES IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS!!!!!!

GIVE THEM A BREAK. They are a GREAT company

w00t, got mine and it has a 5 year warranty (expires 8/24/09). They even delivered it the day after Hurricane Frances passed, which was really shocking considering there were downed powerlines everywhere. There was a traffic light sitting in my driveway, and I'm not even that close to any major intersections. Now I need to decide whether to buy an x-box to put this drive in or put it in my machine for a total of 394 GB.
