**Updated 5/2** Will Dish Network come out to remove one of their POS dishes off my property?

Previous owner of our house has two Dish Network (could be DirecTV, I don't remember... I'm currently back at my old place taking a break from moving) dishes on the outside driven directly into the dirt.

Will these satellite companies come here and dig that shit up if I ask them or is it simple enough for me to dig it up and clip whatever wires are running -- I assume there's nothing powered running through the wires?

**Updated 5/2**

My dad and I were still out at Lowes getting some tools/supplies for the house when the Time Warner people came to install the digital TV and roadrunner yesterday.

1) My mom and fiance were there at the time -- my mom calls me and tells me that the TWC guys need a CAT5 cable to test the internet. WTF kind of install guys don't have cables to test the equipment they install? Luckily, I knew where exactly my CAT5 cable was in the garage so my mom could go and fetch it out of the box.
2) The guys needed to use my laptop which was upstairs in the study, however, my machine is fingerprint secured and running Windows 7. My mom called me again and said they needed my password. She got my fiance on the phone and I gave her the password (which she should have known anyway) and they logged in to test the internet.

It was not until this morning when I went to use the machine and the sunlight was hitting it that I saw that the dumbasses tried to log in using their own fingerprint -- I could tell, because they left a big smudgey fingerprint on screen where the fingerprint icon shows up on the login screen. WTF you idiots!!?? The fingerprint scanner is not on the screen, there is a little sensor on the palmrest of my ThinkPad X300.

3) To make a long story short, they actually took down both dishes for me free of charge and left the dishes beside my trashcan.

Just rip them up yourself. Not difficult.

Since you're not currently a customer, I don't think they'd come out anyways.

I doubt they'll come out willingly, but they will probably send a box w/UPS label. In my experience, they won't want the dishes back, just the LNFB.

It's perfectly safe to clip those wires - I did, and I'm fine!

Edit: If you bug them enough, they may come out. If you were to injure yourself during the removal, they could possibly be in some legal trouble.

doubt they will. we had a huge dish from directway (internet) taht i wanted off my property. they said nope but they would for $100. then they sent me a letter saying they wanted something OFF the satalite dish (responder? or something like that) or they were going to bill me $225 for it. i told them sure i would take it off for $400 and haven theard from them since.

I just disconnected it and climped the wires. though i still have a big pole inmy yard (have my antena on it now. really need to attack it to my roof or something).

I would have called, but since I'm not at the house this minute, I couldn't remember if it was Dish or DirecTV that I needed to call.

If it's as simple as just ripping the damn thing out, I'll just do it myself.

That and then put a free for ad at craigslist.

Nothing powered.
I would just cut the wire and remove everything.
Cut the cable where it comes out of the ground and enters the house as well if you like.

There isn't any power running through the lines if the receivers are disconnected (boxes inside). Even if they were, it maxes out at 21v for TV dishes. As long as you are not planning to get DTV or Dish in the future, just pull it out (just a warning, installers are supposed to concrete them in). If you are planning to get one of the two in the future, I wouldn't recommend pulling it out. We charge $125-$300 to put a pole in.

If the cable company uses contractors in your area hit them up. I did it for a while and we got $20 a piece for each one we brought that may be an option.

Well, the cable company is coming out tomorrow to install Roadrunner/Digital Cable. Maybe I'll just ask them.

why pay people to get it, when you can remove it and turn around and sell it on ebay....

They generally don't come out and take these without a fee. I believe when you sign up for the service, in the contract you "purchase" the dish and therefore it is your property and your responsibility.

why dont you just use the dish? i dont know about your area but dish is a lot cheaper and a whole lot more reliable than the cable companies in my neck of the woods.

i dont think they will come out and get it. they care about the dish at all. just remove it and toss it.

As far as I know, people will actually pay money for the dishes. Sometimes they purchase a 2nd dish to take with them in their RV, etc.

I had one of those dishes in my yard when I bought my house 12 years ago. It was cemented into the ground, royal PITA to get the whole thing taken out. I'm sure it took me 3 hours of manual digging, etc. to get it removed.

It wasn't Dish or DirecTV, it was whatever the 3rd company was in the 90s before they went under.

Primestar? They didn't go under, Directv bought the company. That's why I'm with DTV now.

As for the OP, that dish is almost certainly cemented in the ground.

This only works for Dish, right?

i'd advise against this.... dish is in the process of switching to a different encryption.... so you may or may not be buying an expensive paper weight.
