Can someone PLEASE play Counter-Strike (Dust2, Italy) and report back how it looks? With what kind of card/connection they're using?

Please?

Wow I'm sure taking some heat....guess its deserved...

schneids: I agree this is a great flat panel. And you are right for 95% of stuff there is no ghosting whatsoever and evrything looks wonderful. And the little there is you learn to get used to and eventually not even notice. I'm just saying that gamers looking at this screen with its 25ms rating will be dissapointed if they've used other screens with a 25ms rating. But other than the minor problem everything else is perfect. In fact you are right. If I had a choice as to which LCD to get I'd probably still get this one cause its so sexy. Otherwise I would not get an LCD at all until they improved. And at under $700 its a great god damn monitor. I paid nearly that much for my 19" crt several years ago.

chizow: ok when I get home I will try the Auto button on my DVI connection. I guess I just assumed it was only for adjustments using RGB since adjustments are all disabled in the menu when using the DVI connection.

Since I happen to be at home, I tried all the settings. The only functions using DVI that do not work are the positioning and contrast. All the others, factory reset, auto adjust, etc do work.

I changed the brightness to 50 and used factory reset and it went back to default of 90. When I hit the auto adjust button, the screen went black and said it was running auto adjust.

Hope, this helps.

Wow, that auto adjust button works great! I was a little dissappointed with the monitor on my first day using it. However, I was holding my judgement until I recieved my new video card with DVI. After auto adjusting, I think I can live with this thing (quite well) until my new card comes tomorrow.

Ghosting is quite noticeable with analog even using the mouse. I'm not a gamer so I haven't tried it with games. I do love having my desk back.

for those of you who prefer the samsung 191t over dell, and own one of the american express bvg cards, you can actually get the samsung 191t for less.

order it from www.jandr.com at $899 (no tax unless you are in NY, so even better if you are in one of those taxable states for dell)
-$100 rebate
-$140 AMEX pricematch (cheapest you can find on pricegrabber is around $760)
-$18 (2% ebates)
+$18 shipping
-------------------
$660 net cost

it'll probably be less since you can wait for up to 60 days to do the amex price match, and hopefully someone will be selling it for even less than $760 by that time.

again, this deal is for people with american express bvg cards.

similarly you can also get the sony x82 18" lcd for $650:
$999
-$100 rebate
-$250 pricematch to Newegg at $750 shipped
---------------------
$650 net cost

you can also do these same deals with your local compusa or bestbuy if you don't mind paying the tax.

Good idea, especially if you have the card. Well worth it!!

I don't think that Best Buy or ChumpUSA will match online stores. Only local. I've tried that before.

Actually BB offers it for $899 and BB also lists the $100 rebate, so the PM would be coming through BVG. You'd be paying tax but saving shipping....don't think you can get ebates from a B&M but maybe try the .com? Would be a good way for those who didn't want Dell on the monitor or who wanted the portrait option to get their hands on this sweet LCD at a nice price with a bit more effort.

Ok what gives? I'm using the Samsung 191T on DVI with my MSI Geforce4 Ti4400 on Windows XP and when I hit the Auto button, i get a window showing "Auto Adjustment Locked!" and then it goes away. So even the AUTO button on my monitor is disabled on DVI. For those of you where its working, do you have something hooked up to your analog RGB connection as well?

Actually here are the options that are disabled on my DVI connection:

Auto Button
Contrast
Image Lock
Position
Geometry Reset
Color Reset
Color Temperatire
Image Size

What is available on my DVI connnection is:

Brightness
Language
Halftone (for menus)
Menu Position
Menu Display Time

This is why I said on DVI I have no control over the picture other than brightness. So I'm not talking out of my ass!

Heheh well I was under the impression you had the Dell 1900FP. I guess there ARE other differences between the two other than the swivel base. I was at BB to pick up SW2: AoTC and noticed the same thing for auto adjust. Just figured it was jury-rigged by BB, so I dunno what to tell you. I only have my device hooked up to the DVI output on my Ti4200, and its my 1900FP.

When you hookup via DVI the auto adjust buttons do not work because you have nothing there to adjust. The adjustments for geometry, color temp are always perfect. That's the good thing about using DVI.

Would have been scorching hot if the 20% was still on, but its not. Not really a big savings for the people who bought 1 LCD already, now that 20% is gone. Would only save you about $100 per monitor over the 20% off deal, and you have to either take all 3 or line up people to go in with you and split the cost. (comes out to about $590 vs ~$700 per monitor).

I just got my DVI card and hooked it up. It is better. I'm having a couple of issues that I'm wondering if anyone else has seen (I've got the dell 1900fp).

I'm seeing some banding on gradient colors. Is this common? For example, if I look at the blue bar at the top of IE, it goes from dark blue to light blue. Can anyone else see bands where the colors change?

Also, on some of my text, some of the letters have a slight red outline. I've noticed this most after I set the clear type font.

Aside from that, I am noticing a little more moire than I'd like but the monitor looks really good. I had to turn the brightness down to 75%.

Is it just me or is anyone else recieving monitors with dead pixels. the first monitor i recieved had a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen. It was really obvious when watching dvds. I called them to have it replaced, and after about 2 weeks, i recieved my new monitor today. A guess what, a few more dead pixel. I'm considering just returning both monitors and pocketing my $700.

Chizow,
Thank for the info, however, it is when I first applied the clear text that I started noticing the red text. My banding issue seems to have gone away when I rebooted.

Illmustard,

Mine only has one dead pixel and its on the far right, outside the scroll bar. So it really doesn't bother me. Hope you are able to work it out.

Eman1,

So are you still having problems with the red bleeding effect on text? If so, enable ClearType, and then use the link that Chizow provided above to tune ClearType to your preferences. Until I tuned ClearType the text was almost unreadable. If I disabled ClearType the bleeding went away, but so did the crispness of the text.

illmustard,

I don't have a single dead pixel on my 1900FP. From reading a lot of posts about these panels, it doesn't seem that very many of them come with dead pixels. Unfortunately, it sounds like you are having some unusually bad luck with them. I would try to rub out the bad pixels first, and if they don't come on than get one more replacement from Dell... I can't imagine that you will go three for three with pad pixels.

Schnieds,

Thanks. Yes, I've done all that. By tuning you mean selecting the font that looks best. I'm only getting the red outline in some areas of my screen and only noticable on some applications (black on white background) like email, etc.

The clarity and color is great on this monitor. I really like the monitor but am considering returning it. I don't know if I can live with the moire. On some grey screens and on some small text (8 or 10 font) it is pretty "pixilated". Also, some photos with fine detail look unnatural. I wish it wasn't so!!!

Is anyone else noticing this?

WhiteKnight,

Get a lint-free cloth (the kind that you should use to clean your LCD), put it over your index finger, and use then lightly massage the area with the dead pixel for a little while. Most times this will actually activate the dead pixel and solve your problem. Once the pixel is working, it will rarely, if ever, stop working...

Eman1,

Did you try all of the ClearType tuning settings? I personally had to try all of them. I found that there was only one ClearType setting that got rid of the bleeding effect, all of the others did nothing, or made the situation worse.

I haven't noticed any pixelization or non-true looking photo's/images at all...
