Anyone have other experience with or opinions about this monitor? Do you need a DVI video card or will VGA work too?

It has both DVI and RGB connectors for both digital and analog input so it should work with any video card out there.

Wow, this couldn't have worked out better. I just got a local buyer for my Planar CT1904Z (I got it when it was $660 at the end of August, subtract another 20 for ebates so $640)...and he will pay $800. This is terrific.

I was going to get the 181t for $820, but damn, 1900FP = 191T for me!

I have one of the Planar 191M's now, and I have one of the 1900FP's on order. I got the Planar last week, and expect the 1900FP to arrive sometime late this next week. I am going to extensively test both, and then send the one I like least back to Dell.

I will post a review in the video forum once I make my decision and detail which one I kept as well as why I kept it.

If you want me to PM you a copy of my comparison, give me a PM and I will send it to you...

Schnieds:

What's your impression of the pl191 that you have now? I am debating between that one and the 20.1 version. I really want the 1600x1200 but might save money and get the 19".

I was all set on the pl191 but the 1900fp(191t) is cool with the utltrathin bezel.

Glad I caught this deal. It is still on and my total price is $788. What is this talk of ebates? I have looked over their site and I see nothing mentioning anything about ebates. If I can save an extra 2% ($15) with this rebate, I am willing to hold off on pressing the order button until someone tells me what an ebate is.

My guess from asthetic / techincal features and knowing Dell uses Sansung LCD since 1999.
From the two links posted, both monitors are very, very similar in appearance.

I hate seeing the DEll logo on there.. do they have the samsung version at dell?
You could always get a little "Goof Off" from Home Depot and rub the logo off. I'm sure the logo is just silk-screened onto the bezel and removing it shouldn't be too hard. However, given the small bezel on the monitor, it doesn't appear that the logo looks very big at all.

Goof off will dull the casing where the logo was.

FYI: I'm wondering what type of warranty comes with this dell monitor? I hear only a 1 year? I'm wondering if its worth spending the extra money and buying the samsung 191t from bestbuy for $899 which comes with the 3 year warranty and the pivot feature. Do pixels go bad after the first year?

wow! i received mine today and am running it right now off an onboard sis chipset. i am about to install winxp on my radeon 8500 machine and check out the dvi. but let me say, this thing is BEAUTIFUL. i use a very nice 15" at work and this is just insanely better.

fyi, it does include analog and dvi cables. great small bezel! WOW! thanks!

I use an ATI 7500 for dual monitors. One LCD plugs into the DVI port and one LCD pugs into the analog port. THe ati software works really well in managing your screens.

The only negative thing I can think of is that since it's 1280x1024 its not a normal aspect ratio so alot of newer games dont seem to support that resolution. Battlefield 1942 is one example. They support something like 1280x964 which means the image would be scaled.

huh? 1280x1024 is a normal 4:3 video mode. Must likely your only running the game in 1024x768 and it's scaling in the LCD.

Actually 1280x1024 is 5:4. A lot of games do support it though, but like Fant said, some don't.

1280/1024 = 1.25:1 = 5:4
1024/768 = 1.33:1 = 4:3
1600/1200 = 1.33:1 = 4:3
800/600 = 1.33:1 = 4:3
640/480 = 1.33:1 = 4:3

See a pattern?
