Just to confirm I've done this not once, not twice, not thrice, but four times now. Keeping two, giving one away, selling one on eBay.

If a manager/supervisor won't do it, come back later - I always have the easiest time getting deals like this late, right before closing, when everyone just wants to get the h*ll outta work.

After reading this thread I jetted over to Best Buy to check it out. Turns out this morning they put up a notice that the original coupon had a typo...now you HAVE to purchase a new PC to be able to redeem the coupon. Bummer.

Did NOT work for me in Moorestown BB.

Kingston 512 laptop ram was free (selling for 59.99) but I had to pay $30 for the installation. In retrospect it wasnt worth $30 for the 512mb upgrade.

I showed them the scan (which was very light). Anyway they said the deal was RAM was free up to $90 but the installation was still $30 on top of any discount.

You can use PC2700 in a PC2100 LapTop it will just run at PC2100 speeds.

Hey, I registered just to respond to this great deal. Unfortunately it didn't work for me at my local store. The damn manager said that I HAVE TO have the Geeks install it into my laptop, that they wer afraid that I might blame them if I didn't install it right, even if I pay for installation. When I told them that I had a PowerBook, they said they don't install for Macs. I had to wait like an hour for them to actually accept that the coupon was to be honored and call the Customer Service. But in the end, they said I MUST buy a PC since it's a package. When I said that no it's not a package that I don't need to buy a computer, they mumbled in a insecure voice that yea, if you have a laptop we'll install it and if you buy a computer... I'm gonna try in another store and see of anything else happens.

Anyway, sucks for me. Anyone got any suggestions on how to be successful? Thanks!

We got lucky here. Went to the 2 BB's in town. 1st-free 512mb stick pc2700 sodimm
2nd-another free 512mb Stick PC2700 sodimm
2nd visit to 1st store-free 256mb pc3200 desktop ram and free 512 mb sandisk sd card!

The manager at the first store was like "over ride it and we'll figure it out later" Thanx!

OMG, this actually works. Success rate 67%, netted 2 SODIMMS, could have been 100% if I had the laptop with me. First store was OK with the coupon, but wanted to install the RAM, and I convinced them I would bring the laptop later for install. After a talk with a manager, I got the memory. In the second store, they did not want to do it at all without the laptop. In the third store, they were totally understanding I did not have the laptop, but they had problems waiving the $29 installation fee. After another manager talk, they waived it by hand, but made beaucoup copies of my coupon, I guess to write on there that a system purchase is required for this deal for any further adventurous souls.
2 sticks is enough for me, a 1GB laptop is nice to have. If anybody is thinking about doing this, do it fast, do not talk too much, just enough to let them know you want to do the deal, let them do the running around and checking. This deal may hit the fan yet, once they find out they are losing a bunch of money - all they have to do is kill the coupon code in their system.
Anybody remember the 30GB Nomad fiasco a couple of months ago ? - those who did it fast and quick got the $20 Nomads, I got stuck with a righteous manager, did not get any.

I still can't believe this worked - it's probably the first time I got a BestBuy "deal" to work for me. I always get thwarted ;-)

I didn't have any luck here. Went to BB and tried, but they said it was only good if you purchase a laptop. Did anyone else get this response? I'll try another one later.

I just returned from Best Buy and they did it, but they had to manually change the price of install to zero to get it to work. It worked though! Netted 2 sticks, convincing them that it was for my brothers computer and mine, just to be sure. As mentioned before, try and keep this low key as they seem to be getting smart to their mistake.

This no longer works at the BB in Colorado Springs. They have put an announcement on the door saying they wont take it anymore without a purchase of a computer. I drove 100+ miles for no reason

Went to 3 Best Buys.

1st Best Buy - Coupon is fake. We will not take it.

2nd Best Buy - Register person didn't know how to open box so calls manager to open it. Manager looks at coupon calls 1-888-BestBuy and finds out you have to buy a computer with it.

3rd Best Buy - Lady scans 2 x 256MB of RAM. $54 - coupon = $0... hmm something must be wrong here... asks other lady at another register and says they won't take it. Says its not really a coupon its more like an advertisement or something. I was like wtf...

I knew it wouldn't work for me too good to be true.

No go on the SD cards in Castleton - Indianapolis. Problems with system memory also (2x256 @ 24.99 ea.)... register guy couldn't get it to ring in & supervisor said I'd have to buy a computer to get the discount.
