WD1000JB isn't much faster than other IDE HDD's. You won't find an IDE drive much faster than 8.9ms right now and it's still stuck at 7,200RPM. The only factor that makes that HDD slightly faster than average IDE HDD is the 8MB buffer. I'm sure it is technicallly possible to build a 10,000 or 15,000RPM IDE, but the way capitalistic system works, they're not going to do that, because it results in diminished revenue for them since people will buy the cheaper fast IDE drives instead of their expensive SCSI drives.
