Looks like a pretty good price on the trilogy, especially for the special extended edition box set. Checked ebay and saw it was about $70 so it should be a decent price.

I would pay probably $60 to see gollum catching the fish.

It has already been shown in HD a while back (I believe it was on PPV HD). Anyway, movies, tv shows and anything else that is shot using film can be transfered to HD. HDNET has shown old tv shows and movies in HD (Hogan's Heros comes to mind and I believe that was shot in the 60s) heck the Wizard of Oz was shown recently in HD and that was shot in the 30s (too bad it was shot in 4x3 instead of widescreen. I even have the ROTK HD version compressed using the new H264 codec sitting on my hard drive (just over 8 gigs for over 3 hours of glorious HD). Anyway, only stuff shot on video cannot be transfered to HD (basically you are stuck to what ever video resolution it was originally used to shoot it).

Anyway, I would love to jump on this but I think I'll wait for the HD version which I am hoping will be available by the next holidays. Still, a good deal...

I wish I haddent ordered them and got them from BB now because I ordered atleast a week ago and even though it showed in stock when I did they havent shipped yet.
Hate to tell you this, I ordered mine on Dec. 25th, and still don't have the set.

They're estimating sometime in the first half of Feb. for delivery.

I did get the good price though, so I'm not too upset.

Edit: Looks like I spoke too soon, my set came today, so it seems Amazon has these "In Stock" for now.

Wow, I guess it must be going through the USPS hub on Mars or something.

I can live with a little editing, but most of the changes that Jackson made were purely idiotic. They lend nothing to the movie and take away from Tolkien's original vision. Save yourself $60 and read the books.
Agreed!
I first noticed this in having read Jim Michener's Hawaii when it was first released and then going to the "world premier" of the movie.
I was aghast at how the movie was just trash in comparison to the book.
In every comparison I can think of, the book was vastly superior to the movie. Books let your imagination run free. In a movie, you are limited to the director's imagination.

Edited: To say, this is not a TC but a book promo.

^ Nice, that's less than $2 a disc! Although even at $48.96 it's a ridiculously good deal

The Amazon price has gone back down to $52.62 with free shipping. I think the price dropped some time on Thursday 5/11. The price has been $80.36 or $85.96 for 2-3 months, and I've been waiting for it to drop again.
