They've got really cheap stevia powder (8.8oz for $9). Anybody know if this brand tastes kind of "herby"?

Not at all. I'd say it's just a tad bit sweeter than their "standard" powder. I buy the chocolate Stevia-flavored whey from Optimum Nutrition (don't know if there are any other flavors) and it generally tastes like any other chocolate protein powder does. The tiny difference in the taste is hardly noticeable after you use it for a week.

Dextrose is for spiking your creatin intake, gator aid grape juice or powdered dextrose right when you drop your white powder. Dextrose has no effects on your protien intake your body burns protien just like calories about 45 minutes to a hour after you work out your protien cells start to desolve and you muscles choose your reserves or what you have in your system at the time. Since whey proteins have a 15 minute absortion rate their the ideal way to stay high in protein, milk just slows down that rate its takin in.
Ive also heard people say youll desolve the whey way to fast for a banana to digest in your system to really get a good spike, Ulm yea Ulm also adding sugars to your shakes is bad then youll be adding bad fatty sugars, to the sugars already in the whey.

Liquid Creatin Createan Id stay away from theres a very high chance you bought it spoiled, it started its waste cycle as soon as that crap was bottled.

Also id stay away from the cottage cheese at night. Ever heard of blood clot and all the other thing assosiated with high bloodpressure. Only youll be asleep when it hits if it does.

I get some great deals at www.AllsportsNutrition.com when i order stuff theyve also a great deall on 10lbs of good whey for about 44 bucks shipped stuff right under ONWhey on quality. I do like the deal on Iposure butll ill have to pass to much $ for me.

I also take 1 Flaxseed before my work out, and i take creatine and some ProRated Whey protein, ive some ON Whey bottles sitting since i changed brands. Thinking of adding some R-ala next time i order stuff.

Cool link for the Dextrose.

Do you use Acetyl-L-Carnitine also? and have you used R Alpha Lipoic Acid before and if so what brand?

Lately Ive been buying my protein from places that offer custom formulas. Protein factory and protein customizer are both good choices for this. There are many different types of protein out there to consider now days. Soy would be one of my last choices.

The hydrolyzed proteins are about the best you can get for anabolic effect, however they are the worst tasting ones also. Always mix 1:1 with another type of protein, I choose CFM whey for that. Also, there are different types of Hydrolyzed whey. The lower the molecular weight, the more its readily absorbed....and the more bitter the taste gets. Hydrolyzed protein is the same principle behind Glutamine Peptides <- hydrolyzed glutamine.

For those looking for an anticatbolic effect, Micellar Casein and Hydrolyzed 360 caseinate are the best choices. Both are bitter tasting.

They also offer plenty of supplements. BCAA's (go to protein factory for that), Aminogen, Creatine, CLA powders, etc etc. All mixed to your specs at a reasonable price. They also have premade formulas that are pretty decent too. I know Protein Customizer ships fairly fast, Factory takes a little longer but they have better flavors, sweetners, and a bigger choice of supps.

Wow, this topic has "expanded" somewhat ...

For those wandering in looking for companies with good prices on supplements, etc., it's always pretty hard to beat Nutrition Express (phone, catalog, on-line, $4.95 flat rate shipping saves major $'s !!) or Supplementcentral.com.

I never used eighter brand yet, its supose to help with muscle building for natural people and i assume for those that use anabolics. I did use some 1-ad over the summer after adding 10% to my arms on creatine a week later i gained another 10% from my base arm size. So im thinking of trying the R-ALA just for a pick me up before i work out.

SYNTRAX INNOVATIONS seems to be the favorite for R-Ala pills.

I dont think ill do more phormones though i had gained alot of water in a short time and im glade most all of it went away with the gain still on me.

Supplementcentral.com is a good place. My brother used to order from them. There prices are a little bit higher then normal though.
Ex:

$25.95 5lb Chocolate Whey Protein (ON)
$21.99 Same ON 5lb Whey Protein

$21.95 Creatine Prolab 1,000 g
Same Creatine $19.88

Planet depot is about 10-15% cheaper. Easypricematch is 5% cheaper then planetdepot. And on first time orders, you get an additional 5% coupon.

still a hot deal. do you think that they would match an ebay store? like this one:
30 bucks for 2 boxes of next nutrition bars
if so that would be a REALLY hot deal.

heres a really good deal that will work for pricematching

box of 12 u-turn bars by next nutrition (30 grams protien) like MILKEY WAY for 14.50
by www.nutritiondeals.com

13.78 after 5%. I added 2 to my order, and for me this was around $2 to add to my order shipping wise.

24 bars for $30... only 1.25 for a bar that sells at $3 in almost any store.

Man - this thread carries a lot of information and mis-information. I have my own opinion which I won't share here but just one word of advice: If you consider building up your body either for general exercise purposes or because you intend to be a body builder - read a little about how the whole system of muscle building works. As can be seen by some of the bloated (pun intended) posts here it's quite complex and it may not be the same for everyone.

As for the purpose of the original post - great deal

I have a family history of high blood pressure. Actually, thanks to some nice treatment I gave to my body in college I am just now regaining control of my own. I am wanting to take more and more supplements to help me along with my bodybuilding, but am extremely cautious when it comes to taking anything due to most things being 'not for high blood pressure prone' people. I currently take the few things that I know, or at least think I know, to be safe : Creatine, Protein, Glutamine, Multivitamin...

Are any of you in the same boat of limitation as I am? What further supplemental recommendations might you offer?

To help with blood pressure try lowering your intake of caffeine (coffe, etc). A bit of information about caffeine:
? ? Caffeine causes vascular constriction. (cold fingers, reduced blood flow to brain and elsewhere. This blood clotting factor was good for fight or flight where bloodshed may be a reality. But, it causes elevation in blood pressure and cardiovascular problems in the modern world. Note: Reincrease of blood flow is why people get headaches when they stop taking caffeine. People should wean themselves of caffeine use and not quit cold turkey.)

A great article on Caffeine is found HERE.

For High Blood Pressure you can take CoQ10.
Also Hawthorn Berry

yeep.. which is why all the migraine medicines dope you up on caffeine, so restrict all the blood flow in your brain

It sounds like you were taking the wrong thing or you picked a crap brand. No good protein powder should have more than 5% of your daily value of cholesterol per scoop of powder. It sounds to me like you were taking Weight/Mass Gainer, which on an average 4 scoop serving, has 60-80% of your daily value of cholesterol. (Dependent on brand of course)

I personally like vitaglo.net and DPSnutrition.com for my supplements. DPS is by far the cheapeast for ProLab Pure Whey.

Agreed as seen from above post. Below is a serving of a weight gainer.

Prolab Nlarge II

Cholesterol: 100 mg
40% of daily allowance per serving
