Yup looks like online is the only way to order it to comply with the rebate. Normally the Staples rebates specify all three ways (Staples.com, Staples Direct, and Staples Stores) separately on each rebate so this one only saying Staples.com probably means only online.
Staples wouldn't have this hard drive and the $30 rebate in their in-store ad if this was a on-line only deal. I'm sure a rebate would printout at the register when purchased in the store.

Your information is incorrect - Staples.com pulled this item from their website several weeks ago (22 Oct to be exact), after the "79433" $50 off $200 coupon (now expired) surfaced on Fat Wallet and Staples.com got hammered with orders ($179.98 - $50.00 coupon - $30.00 mail-in rebate = $99.98). I still have the harddrive listed in my "Favorite Items" list at Staples.com, but the harddrive continues to be listed as "Discontinued Item" (they pulled the harddrive as I was in the process of ordering). Short of getting the Ingram Micro number for this harddrive and special ordering by phone, I strongly suspect Staples.com won't relist this harddrive before the ".com" rebate expires - I hope I am wrong. I do suspect that Staples will have a one-week-only rebate for in-store purchases (which has the effect of "limiting" coupon use), since the rebate is listed in their circular for next week. But if they do relist the harddrive on the website, that would [potentially] create another double-rebate opportunity, depending on how the in-store rebate is worded. The harddrive has been available in-store for some time, so there is no reason for it to *not* be available online unless Staples is deliberately not listing the item. Hmmm, wonder what Maxtor would think about that????

So, does anyone know the Ingram Micro (IM) number for the Maxtor 120GB harddrive - that would be one way to order the drive via Staples.com

I managed to pick-up one of these drives last Saturday at Best Buy after finding they had an unadvertised in-store $50.00 mail-in rebate, to which I pricematched against CompUSA, making my final cost on the harddive $107.99 ($179.99 - $22.00 pricematch - $50.00 mail-in rebate). Not as good as this [potential] deal, but that's less than $1 per GB for a DiamondMax Plus 9 harddrive!

And No! the Maxtor 120GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive is not currently on the Staples web site, since the sale doesn't start until Sunday and this is a new item these's no need for staples to have it on the web site today. When they do add it to the site then I will post the link, as always.

I don't know about staples removing the Maxtor 120GB because some people are using a $50 off coupon instead of a $30 off coupon, they probably removed it because they were ran out of stock for on-line orders. If they have more stock coming in for the sale then the hard drive will be on-line Sunday if not before that time.

I was referring to the rebate found online so people wouldn't try to send that in with a phone order for example, which I sometimes do. I don't have an in-store rebate to compare to but I bet you're right about it being in-store also.

It's possible they don't want to sell it online. I remember OM didn't list a hard drive online and made the sale in-store only.

Nope - Staples has intentionally pulled this item from their database. The harddrive is commonly available anywhere and everywhere you look - retail or online. It's available in every Staples retail store I have visited before and after the 22nd of October. If the item was simply out-of-stock, then why does the item not simply show as "Out Of Stock"? It clearly shows "Discontinued Item". And if the item is so readily available in-store, then why can it *not* be ordered for in-store pickup? The "Discontinued Item excuse" is the same excuse that "the Zone" used on the 160GB 8MB Maxtors that were discovered for $161 and change.

Until that $30 rebate expires, Staples.com would be allowing this drive to go out the door for $119.98 or less, since it is not difficult to come across a Staples $30 off $150 (or better) coupon. And with the plethora of rebate items, it wouldn't be too much to easily get this drive for less than $100 with a $50 off coupon, by stacking free-after-rebate items with the harddrive order. This is a deliberate effort on their part, just like OfficeMax.com has begun doing in the past few weeks with some of their Western Digital harddrives. But since OM rebates usually run week-to-week (not for an entire fiscal quarter) - their items magically reappear in their database the following week - hence are available online - as soon as the rebate has expired. I'm sorry, but that's just plain wrong. That's a classic example of Bait-and-Switch advertising....

If the harddrive *does* come back "in-stock", it will be because this is a preplanned sale, for which Staples would have pre-arranged for additional inventory from Maxtor.

I think I'm gonna pick up two after work and just PM on Sunday.
I will just use a 30 dollar printable.

muffstah - the $30.00 in-store rebate (which hasn't been posted yet) most likely won't be valid before Sunday, 10 Nov 2002. If you pricematch Sunday, you're going to need to get your local store to do a return and repurchase the harddrive.

Still can't figure it out clearly if it's 8mb cache, but I guess this drive has 2mb cache, right?

K-Squared, I was going to buy it now and Sunday, return it and repurchase it so that I can get in on the rebate. Maybe they'll do to me what Circuit City did

What did Circuit City do? also I didn't think there was a printable $30 off coupon.

This whole things seems a bit sketchy, will have to wait until Sunday to see I guess.

Also can someone explain how you are doing all this price matching stuff and what stores allow it and how.

Thank you Much

I'm 'considering' the same, since the one printable $30 off $150 expires tomorrow....

But then again, Circuit City may do to you, what they did to me!

I've checked the Staples site several times throughout the day. The harddrive is still only coming-up as an in-store special. Note the "In-Store Savings" in the small box to the right of the Ad price of $129.94 after rebate.

It would be much easier to do online (plus upromise *and* ebates as well!), but I just don't see it happening - sure hope I'm wrong about this....

".... Have you always been this paranoid?... "

Huh???? Paranoid about what? I was "hoping" to get to use my $30 off $150 coupon which expires today, by purchasing the item for in-store pick-up, while actually picking the item up Sunday morning when the rebate [will] print. Thus getting the benefit of both the coupon *and* the rebate. I wouldn't call that being paranoid....

Nope - just trying to correct the misinformation previously posted in this thread....

What right-minded online entity would not list an item on their website, that every other e-tailer lists on their website????

[heard in the Corporate Staples board room from the CEO] Let me see, I think we will intentionally not offer this harddrive online for full retail price,... but wait until the in-store Veteran's Day sale to increase sales volume.... yeah right!

You said:
"$30 off $100 & $10 off $50 Staples coupons "

Where would I find these coupons?
Actually AT the store? or in their ad?
or where?
Thanks!

The in-store rebate has been added to Maxtor's website....

For those of you that don't know, Staples is shifting to printing rebate forms at the register, just like Best Buy, Circuit City, and CompUSA. Thus there is the possibility that you won't need the online rebate form from the Staples.com website. In any event, here's the online rebate form Maxtor 120GB rebate - promotion #02-50841

The rebate *NOW* available on Staples.com ....

edit - updated information on the Staples.com rebate link.

Okay, so with all the speculation floating around, is this actually possible?

When ordered, it should appear as : $179 - $20 - $10 - $30 = $119, right? ($20 is automatic, $10 is from a coupon code (magical stackable coupon), $30 is from a coupon code)

Afterwards, there will be one (or more?) mail-in rebates for $30.

Correct? Thanks.

Nobody seems to have answered this, but in another Staples thread someone noted that you can NOT get the "instant savings" online. I don't know the bottom line on this, but that's what I read. YMMV

Is this a B%M only deal? Cause I can't find the hard drive on their website. If it is a B&M only, then how are we suppose to use the coupon codes? Stores require printable coupons. Thanks
