I - like the *OTHER* ~80-percent of the forum members that have voted - we would like for *YOU* to update your thread.

That's OUR PROBLEM with YOUR thread - or is it attitude?

How many people above have either stated "you can't", "not possible", "I don't see how", etc. above????

I just don't understand you. You've updated all your other threads, why do you refuse to update this one - the one that is the most inaccurate of all the threads you've posted for this circular period (10-16 Nov 02)? As of 1115 EST (11:35AM Eastern Standard Time) on 13 November 2002, the information in your original post STILL reflects outdated, incorrect information - to include even the rebate promotion and associated links. Care to explain????

Oh, and thank you for that ONE negative (ie. No) vote - seems your out-numbered 41-10-1.

2cool4u - I'm not saying that people posting hot deals have to maintain a 24/7 vigil. BUT, the originator has either posted-in, or edited this thread at least once every day except the 9th (and I'm sure I missed some edits):

11/06 - 07:14 am / originated thread
11/06 - 05:13 pm / posted in thread
11/07 - 06:41 am / posted in thread
11/07 - 11:27 am / posted in thread
11/08 - 08:17 am / posted in thread
11/08 - 01:54 pm / posted in thread
11/10 - 00:00 pm / edited thread at least once
11/11 - 08:25 pm / edited thread
11/11 - 08:35 pm / posted in thread
11/12 - 08:00 am / posted in thread
11/13 - 08:21 am / edited thread
11/13 - 12:19 pm / posted in thread
11/13 - 03:18 pm / posted in thread
11/13 - 03:52 pm / edited thread

And despite several forum members repeatedly stating that the information was either incorrect, or that the deal as laid-out was not possible, s/he has essentially ignored what everyone has said. Read the entire thread, this is quite clear.

No, it's not that no one has posted similar deals, it's that MysticMan has beaten others in posting the deal. But this and/or the number of deals is irrelavent. The information posted in the thread is bogus - the deal simply CANNOT BE DONE AS POSTED ! All we ask is that when information to the contrary surfaces, that the deal be updated - look at how forum members are voting in the pole!!!

look at how forum members are voting in the pole!!!

Where's the option for "This should be locked because it's I'm only trying air my beef with MysticMan1"? I would have voted for that one. Let it go. You already crapped all over this thread.. and just to prove your point to go and start another thread so you can crap on this one some more. Let it go... many people appear to be getting this deal to work, we are all very sorry you couldn't... but that's no reason to fly off the handle and start your own vendetta with MysticMan.

This deal CAN BE DONE!!! You just need to find a nice sales person, like I said before, went to the staples, they had 2 drive left in stock and I got one of them for ~$100 net, that is about $10 in taxes which is unavoidable since it is at the B&M

I got one then my friend got the other, the sales guy was impressed after it was rung up once he realized the final price and was a bit upset that we had sold them out

But I give props to MysticMan1 for finding it, thanks a bunch.

Hey lsman - Technically neither coupon can be applied and I would be very cautious in using either. Both coupons on Fat Wallet are one-time-use 16-digit codes.

One coupon states, "Valid through catalog or online only. Limit one per customer, non-transferable. minimum purchase requirement of $150 must be met with purchases to which no other coupon or instant savings offer applies..."

The e-mail coupon states, "Valid in-store, catalog or online. Limit one per customer, non-transferable....". Furthermore, the e-mail coupon appears to have been "altered" as the coupon is for $30 off $150, yet the fine print states, "*Offer expires 11/22/02. Valid in-store, through catalog, or online. Limit one per customer, nontransferable. Minimum purchase requirement of $100 must be met with purchases to which no other coupon or instant savings offer applies. Coupon must be surrendered. No copies/facsimiles. ". Considering this is one of the java-script e-mail generators that routinely pop-ups on Fat Wallet, I would have to say it is a fraudulent coupon.

So sure, you can 'do the deal', but you would be committing coupon fraud....

edit - the following is cut-and-pasted directly from the thread the coupons are posted in:

"legally it's a fake, but morally it is real coupon that Staples emails out only to a select group. they tend to only email coupons to accounts that have been created but haven't ordered or order very seldom. i think this is a$$ backwards to them to email coupons out to inactive accounts while active accounts almost never get squat. I got mine last night after driving 30 miles in the rain. But I failed to convince the stuborn manager to apply the $30 off $100 coupon code for me. Today I am going to try to redeem the printout coupon. Even if I fail (they said they would accept it on the phone, but who knows), $109 ($179 - $20 - $30MIR - $20GC) is still not bad.

Update #2 I've heard that some Staples store are giving out $20 mail-in gift cards when your order total is over $150, if this is offer in your local store add $20.06 worth a item before you use the coupon to keep the over $150 and save a total of $50 off your order. I'm going to buy the the Maxell 100 pack CDRs for 27.94 before the $20 MIR.

The deal : Maxtor 120GB Hard Drive $159.94 + $27.94 = $187.88 - $30 Maxtor MIR - $20 Maxell MIR - $30 off $150 Staples email coupon - $20 mail-in gift cards = $87.88 Total.
It possible that Staples might not let people use a coupon and give them the $20 mail-in gift cards too, so check before you buy (YMMV)

Thread crapping?

**** Hot Deals Forum Rules - Please read before posting ****

Directly from "the Forum Rules":

What about COUPONS and PROMOTIONAL CODES?

You may post:
  • Links to coupons on the issuing vendor's own site.
  • Links to scans of coupons that invite you to share them with your friends.
  • Links to scans of other coupons, AS LONG AS they do not state that copies or reproductions are not allowed, or that the coupon is valid only for the original recipient.
DO NOT post:
  • Coupon or promotion numbers.
  • Links to coupon numbers you could not post, here.
  • Links to scans of coupons other than those listed, above.
  • Requests for others to post or send you coupon numbers or offers to send them to anyone else.
We may not catch every violation of these rules, but if you post it, and we catch it, your account may be locked without further warning.

What about ETHICS?

  • If you question whether a deal is real or a mistake, call or write the company, and ask. If it is a valid deal, post it. If it isn't, DO NOT post it, and DO NOT complain about it.
  • If there are limitations on a deal, DO NOT discuss ways to get around them.
  • If you think your post may be unethical, it probably is. DON'T POST IT. If you don't care about ethics, FIND ANOTHER FORUM. There are plenty of sites devoted to these kinds of activities. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM! If that is what you want to do, PLEASE GO THERE. If you insist on doing it, here, you may become an involuntary lurker.

When are negative comments allowed?
  • If you know a "deal" is a scam.
  • If the post contains improper links, such as click-through referrals, etc. If you know a better link for the same deal, post it in the thread.
  • If there is any other reason to warn others about an offer or link. For example, many sites offering free magazine subscriptions have been known to continue billing credit cards long after the subscription was cancelled. Also, if you know a vendor has a bad reseller rating, you are doing your fellow members a favor by warning them.

----------

First, your Update #1 is in violation of the rules as posted above. It is a direct reference to material on Fat Wallet to coupons that either are only for catalog/online use, or that have been altered. Promoting the use of such coupons is an indirect means of circumventing the second rule under "Ethics" (Well, isn't that special!").

Two, the post is full of inaccurate information. The $20 Gift Check is a rebate promotion - not an in-store deal where they hand you a $20 gift card as implied. The one altered coupon that is for in-store use, precludes using the coupon with any other coupon or instant savings offer. The $30 off $100 and stackable $10 off $50 CANNOT be used in-store. A 'few' Staples stores are allowing the coupons to be used in-store, contrary to their stated Corporate policy. This is the exception to the rule - not the norm.

There are [currently] *NO* legitimate printable coupons out there. The coupons as referenced above are: 1) not available on Staples' website; 2) non-transferable; and, 3) specifically state, "No copies/facsimiles". While you're not providing direct links to these coupons, you are clearly pointing-out ways to get around these "limitations on the deal" - again which is a violation of the forum rules.

And if you were to call or write Staples about using these online coupons in store, what do you think they would say????

What you're indirectly promoting here is coupon fraud. It was this same type of coupon fraud that got coupon use banned here in the first place - also over the use of Staples coupon codes. How would you feel if a new forum member here was arrested for coupon fraud, after following your indirect references to these coupons?

Jesus christ you need a life.

GET OVER IT. IT'S A HOT DEAL.

IF IT DOESN'T WORK = MOVE ON WITH LIFE.

Anyway. Before you get off on another Elitest rant about how you know all the rules and you're God-Life

""It is a direct reference to material on Fat Wallet to coupons that either are only for catalog/online use"" ""The $30 off $100 and stackable $10 off $50 CANNOT be used in-store. A 'few' Staples stores are allowing the coupons to be used in-store, contrary to their stated Corporate policy. This is the exception to the rule - not the norm.""

Actually that is total BS. I just went to the online help session at a checkout of Staples. I asked them if i could use a coupon code in an online store. There apparently is NO policy for these codes. The MANAGER OF THE STORE DECIDES.

I just used 2 coupons today for an 80GB Staples HD today. I actually called 2 local staples cause one didn't have it in stock. But BOTH CS people from each store said i could use the coupons from online

P W N E D

Now backup, sit down...and keep quite If you see someone asking for Coupons or putting links up. TELL THE MOD. Don't go around acting like the owner of the forums and being Mr. Bigshot. It's kinda lame. Jumping people who are just trying to help other members. I was able to get a similar drive using the coupons because of this thread.

Picked One up last night, but no one knew anything about a $20 gift card promotion for orders over $150, so if there really is a $20 gift card staples promotion it's not in the L.A. area.

If you want to check to see where in your area the Maxtor 120GB is in stock you can call 800-333-3330 (option 3), it's a once a day overnight update system for staples items, the CSR will check the store for you and save you a lot of time and phone calls.

BTY : Staples has just added the 8MB Cache version of the Maxtor 120GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive to their web site, but it's selling for $199.99

HarryK - you should submit the rebate to the first address listed below. The "W" signifies to the fulfillment center that you've pre-filed the rebate either through the Staples.com online rebate center, or through the RebatesHQ.com online rebate center ("W" = website-generated rebate form), and will include the rebate tracking number (look below your personal address when you print the rebate form for the tracking number and associated bar code).

The promotion number is 02-50850. The "W" when added to the P.O. Box, informs RebatesHQ/Parago when they're sorting the various rebate promotions, that you have pre-filed the rebate, which (supposedly) expites the processing of the rebate since the fulfillment center does not have to verify your personal information (it's already listed on the website generated rebate form). It also greatly reduces the likelihood of the rebate check being made-out to the wrong name and/or sent to the wrong mailing address because the individual processing your paperwork couldn't read your handwriting. Basically, you're doing some of their clerical work, and getting in return greater security that the rebate will go to the right name/address, in a timely manner.

Another reason for filing the rebate through Staples.com (www.staplesrebate.com), is that you can track the rebate both through Staples and Parago's rebate center websites, whereas rebates filed through RebatesHQ.com cannot be pulled-up through the Staples Rebate Center. Additionally, when I've had to get the Staples Rebate Center to validate a rebate that Parago rejected, the Staples CSR has never had a problem bringing-up a rebate filed through their website, but they've always had to search Parago's (RebatesHQ.com) site to find those rebates I had filed through RebatesHQ.com - at least that's been my impression based on my wait time before I'm told that the rebate has been validated.

Thanks for the info K-squared I actually had decided to NOT use that address because I was afraid it wouldn't ever find itself to the correct P.O. Box (with the "W" added) and I'd lose the rebate. I figured that I'd use the one with the "w" attached to the promotion/dept# cuz it would be safer.

But I've seen your list of HDs and I gotta figure you've done this before so I'll take your word for it.
Thanks

HarryK - I just dug-through my harddrive rebate forms where I have filed the rebates online. The pattern matches what you reported above - online rebates through Parago (RebatesHQ.com) have the "W" following the promotion number; those through the Staples rebate center (www.staplesrebate.com) have the "W" following the P.O. Box (in this case P.O. Box 28515). All but one promotion went through Parago's [new] Miami rebate center and have posted on their website in 5-12 days. The one promotion that [still] went through Parago's [old] McAllen rebate center has still not posted after 19 days, and others that have submitted rebates with some form of "tracking" reported that their rebate paperwork had been forwarded to Miami.

It may be that the location of the dreaded "W" (P.O. Box versus promotion number) simply signifies which online rebate center the form was filed with....

The moral of the story here, if the different versions of the same rebate promotion go to different addresses, use the rebate form that goes to the Miami rebate center address....

yeah, I've filed "a few" harddrive rebates.... 12 with 6 pending....
