Well, I ordered mine and the 50 pack of Ritek 4x media from Mwave, I guess we'll see how it works out! Should arrive Tuesday with any luck.

From the Japanese review link, the NEC ND-2500 can write Taiyo Yuden & Mitsubishi (Made in Singapore) 4x DVD-R media at 8x speed... interesting

It depends on where you order from. GameVE is the only place I've seen so far that carries a black bezel for the 2500A. Mwave has the beige one as do most of the other vendors that seem to be carrying it. I ordered the same thing that Goatbert did........2500A and a 50 pack of Ritek DVD-R's. Total was right at $199 with shipping.

I just ordered the NEC nd-2500 from Gameve. Came out to $142 with tax in California YUCK! but free fedex shipping so should be in sometime this week. Would like to hear from people who ordered theirs during the holidays. What kind of results and what kind of media. Will do my best to post results. Looking to use it with -r media

Well, I bought the Ritek media and the 2500A from MWave. I'm very, very happy with even though at the moment it only seems to write to this particular media at 4x, I'm a patient guy and I've already made a pile of DVDs and freed up about 50 gigs of space so far, along with actually being able to make practical backups.

I would expect that, like other drives, future firmware updates will help this drive burn at 8x with more media, although 4.5 gigs in like 15 minutes is fine by me.

To backup your DVDs a lot of people like to use a freeware app called DVDShrink to Shrink the movie and then use their favorite burning software (like Nero Burning Rom, Nero Express, RecordNow MAX), to write the files created by DVD Shrink to a recordable DVD.
