sucks dude.

I had a 200sx se-r that I was always modding to make it faster, etc... ended up being.. somewhat.. unreliable.
I also have a zx-6r (not really any point in modding... not going to gain anything, and already faster than anything w/ 4 wheels)

I bought a house, so I sold the car and bought a 98 ranger.

Best decision ever. So far the ranger is awesome reliable (4 cyl lima motor) and a great rainy day car.

Only problem with my vehicular life is the insurance on my bike. bleh.

Great thread, I love the writing style. Sorry to hear about your cars. That's pretty retarded that they only stock one rotor. Actually, it makes absolutely no sense. I can't believe they've never run into problems before... I mean...that's like carrying only one spark plug.

i'm impressed by the amount of car knowledge you have and all the fire extinguishers as well.

good luck on the fix

It gets pretty good around the time his truck starts on fire.

I'm glad the brakes on my Suzuki going out, and my truck starting on fire can amuse someone; or give you something to read when you are bored.

Nice save on the truck having all that bicarbonate on hand.
I generally don't skimp on safety stuff. I would bet I have more than 10 extinguishers in the house. I start too much stuff on fire by accident, and way too much on purpose.

Shouldn't there be some kind of fuses, or fusable links back at the batteries? BTW, what happend with the big go-kart?

The winch I have pulls > 500 amps. The largest automotive fusable links I could find were for 200. I The gocart is still in the garage, I haven't had time to work on it yet this year. I was planning on getting the front suspension mounted on my vacation, but now I have to fix my truck first.

Holy crap, it took a 1" impact to remove an AUTOMOTIVE lug nut?? We use those on big truck lug nuts in our shop. Will your compressor supply the CFM needed for that thing?

Anyways, that sucks. One time on my '94 Chevy pickup the remote wire to my sub amp fell down from where I stuffed it in the fuse panel. When I pushed down on the emergency brake pedal, it smashed the remote wire between the pedal and a piece of metal under the dash. About three feet of 14 gague wire erupted into flames. (Because it cut the insulation and grounded out.)
I was able to put it out quickly without a fire extinguisher, though. I have since learned to be more careful with how I run wires.

Yep. I don't use it much, so price was more of a concern than quality. I have a Husky, Craftsman and Ingersol Rand Thundergun, all 1/2" that I use more often. The 1" impact I got specificly for the axle nuts on the above truck. I bent a piece of 10' long 0.200 tubing on the end of a breaker bar trying to remove them when I did the brakes.

Suprisingly, the cheap $19 CP impact puts out more torque than both the Husky and Craftsman ones. the husky says it puts out 250, but it can't take off the lug nuts on my truck, which get torqued to 140 ft/lbs. I thought it was defecive, so I returned it twice. So either all 3 were defective, or Husky impacts suck. The Craftsman one says it is 350 FT/Lbs and it can't take off bolts that I have taken off with the cheap CP. So I am estimating the 400 ft/lbs. I use it more than any other tools ebcause as you can see, I am rough on them. I would rather break a $20 tool than one that cost $100.

I didn't have my tundergun, a neighber is borrowing it. That probably would have taken them off. (I think that was 650 ft.lbs, I don't remember) That means I don't have anything between my ~400 ft/lb CP and the 1" impact. My compressor is a rather large ingersol rand compressor that puts out ~140 PSI or so at a cood CFM. I doubt I could run it full speed for more than 30 seconds even with my compressor. It really sucks up the air.

**** Update ***

I just fixed the brakes on the Ram. I bent up new lines for everyhing from the master cyl to the frame mounts. Stupid Dodge used european bubble flares on one side of the lines and standard doubble flares on the other side so you couldn't buy them anywhere. I had to buy a european flaring tool to go along with the inverted flaring tool I already had.

I spent the afternoon bleeding the ststem and went through 3 quarts of synthetic fluid doing it. I flushed the entire system because the existing fluid was jet black.

Stops perfectly now

Now I have to repair the wiring harnesses. Almost done.

Thanks for reminding me... At my wife's car inspection, the guy said I had about a month left on her front brakes. Same problem - inboard side is worn. I better fix them before my long trip... and I suppose it's time I taught my son how to change oil - a task that I still feel is worth every penny of the $14.95 I spend at one of the rip-off shops that change your oil cheaply so they can point out *expensive* repairs you need such as new brakes. (Even when you have new brakes, they'll recommend new brakes.)

heh heh... I think I'll fvck with them... have my wife drop it off for an oil change and see how much they write up the estimate for. They advertise that they'll beat any quoted estimate by 10% - I have a friend who runs a garage who would probably write it up for the 20 minutes of labor + parts that it'll take. "Hmmmm... you say $700 (like they said last time for her to have her brakes done... I did them for under $30), but I have a quote here for $40. So, let's see... 700 minus 40... 660. 10% of that.. 66 dollars. Sure, you can fix my brakes and pay me 26 dollars to do so!"

Wow, awesome. Have you ever used that company? I don't want to dump $150 if they are not reliable.

We use those exact type of fuse on our Cell sites DC power plants. We crank out over 1200-2400amps of -48V DC power at some sites

just an FYI, I got a 175 amp fuse at pep boys the other day for $4.99. I figure that was a heck of a deal, and it was just right for the inverters I was hooking up. I was converting a few vans for mobile x-ray systems.
