Thanks for the great deal!

Bought 2 @ 57.50 and then used a $15 off $75 coupon from FW. Total after rebates is $30 /each + tax

Rebates printed out at the register and got NEC also!

Strange that some are getting rebate receipts and others not. Any confirmation on Staples taking rebate requests from original receipts?

Bought another one this am and will most likely return it using last weeks receipt.
Staples has a 14 day low price guarantee, no need to buy 2 drives to get lower price.

tyoung88,
Can you get two rebates on the same reciept to the same address.
I suppose if you use a friend's address they would just think you picked it up for him. Wont they try to baulk at this?

Thanks

So with the in-store deal, YMMV.
Did you ask the store with two left to scan the box to verify the 89.99 price?? Stores in the same area shouldn't have different prices, or ask they to PM the store that had the drive for $57.50.

I did ask them to scan it to verify it and they did verify it. I did ask them to price match it but they wouldn't because it's already on clearance and the item it would be pricematched to was also on clearance. I could have tried harder but didn't have the time.

My guess is the guy either didn't scan it or checked the wrong model.

When a price ends in .50, it's a nationwide clearance and the price will be the same at all stores.

I went into a local Staples last night looking for one of these without luck.

I did however pick up a different drive on clearance. It's a memorex dual foramt 4x 2.4x12x. It was 39.50 after rebate (89.50 - 50MIR).

I noticed though, that it's IDE UDMA 33. I had expected it to be at least 66. Does anyone know what the Pacific digital one is?

Will this slower interface pose problems? (I'm runnning an athlon 1600+ w750meg ddr2100, MB capable of IDE AT100)

How are the memorex writers anyway? I haven't heard much about them, but the price looked good.

Yes, you have to cut a piece out of the box with the sticker on it and send that in. Or, if you're very careful, you can score the box with a razor blade or a sharp knife and peel the top layer of cardboard off of the box without cutting all the way through it, if you follow me.

I bought this drive last week as filler when I bought the sonata case. Took back today and returned and re-bought and the rebate printed out at the register.Worked out $37.50 AR for the dvdrw and $28.50 AC for the Sonata case. They wouldnt let me use the special online $20 off code in the store.Still a great deal. Thanks OP

Yup, but the 1st one I bought was on a $75 giftcard that has an $.85 balance now. If I pricematched, they would have credited back $20. If I return one, then the balance jumps back up to $75. I don't know if u ever used a $75 Amex gift card, but they are a pain in the ass. Not much u can do with a $20 one. 75 is tough, but not as bad.

Thanks
Buy 2 and pay for one of them with cash and have them ring up the 2 drives separately and get 2 reciepts

Cool! I've done that => 2 receipts with one trip to the store for 2 rebates.
I didn't think they would let you split a coupon that is intended for the total on one receipt across 2 receipts.
I thought you'd have to argue with them that you only have so much cash on you or only so much is available on your CC.
I thought they'd give you grief.
It's cool that they didn't.

I thought modern registers allowed them to enter cash paid and to bill a CC for the balance on one slip.

I apparently have a BTC drive according to the serial / model #s. I'm wondering why I can only seem to rip @ 4x using Smartripper. My Lite-On DVD-Rom would zip along much quicker.

How about this deal. I told my boss's boss about this deal since he was looking for a DVD burner. I printed out the Staples webpage. He goes to the nearest Staples during lunch and buys one. Get this, without prompting by him the cashier sees the online $20 coupon code on the printout and enters into the register. So it was $57.50 - $20 instant off coupon - $10 GC he had - $20 MIR = $7.50 + tax. Haha. He stopped by another Staples on the way home to buy another one but they would not give him the $20 off.

I couldn't resist anymore - I finally grabbed 1 of the 3 remaining DVD drives at my local Staples. Serial # ends in RV2 - I hope it's the NEC 1300A. $57.50, and $20 rebate form printed at register. A nice 4x DVD burner to match my 4x CD burner ... Anyone in the CT area, there's still 1 drive left at the Derby Staples ...

I just purchased an Optorite based on the info in this thread (based on the serial/model number) The drive plate itself HAS "DD0201" pasted on a label.
UPDATE: Mine is NOT specifically an Optorite but an AccessTek (I believe) A recent search showed that both are identical.

NEW FIRMWARE v2.60I was just released on April 22, 2004. However the FW at optorite does NOT work but on mine but the FW at AccessTek does install. (however I make NO GUARANTEES that it is the 'correct' FW for YOUR specific drive. BTW the v2.60E is for optorite and v2.60I is for the AccessTek.
Firmware v2.60I that is for AccessTek 4x DVD burner

Here is a review from vcdhelp that gave it a rating of 7.8 (7.8) (133 votes) No issues with media especially after the upgrade to v2.5. Note it is called both Optorite and AccessTek

Well, if 37.50 AR @ B&M, could probably use the $10 off $20 on another AT post and get for $27.50 to sweeten the deal a bit further
