Hobbytron.com has their cold cathodes (4" and 12") available in blue, green, red, and white. $4.75 per tube, and $4.75 for the power inverter. In the pics it doesn't show any power leads to the inverter, but trust me, they're there. I've ordered a bunch of these from these guys, and I can tell you that it's a mom and pop show, but they are solid! In addition there is also this:
[/b]Order online today and get $2 off your order! Coupon code: 1026506415[/b]
Note: Mods, this is posted on their website - no lock required.... Can you say $7.50 for a CC??? I thought you could! They're located in UT, so for the rest you Ferengis in CA, that means no tax, and quick transit times.
I highly suggest looking around their site, they've got some highly unusual, and pretty trick stuff that translate into project possibilities very easily!

Heh heh, I would love to see their E-mail come Monday morning.... :Q Now go show 'em what the ATE can do for them.

Enjoy!

Edit: Apparently, you guys have made them give up hope on selling the kits for $34, as they're now listing for $19!!! In addition, they've started listing the individual kit componants for sale as well, and at decent prices too.

This is pretty hot. One question tho. If you buy the bulb without the power inverter, does it bring all the nessesarry powercables and such ? Or does the inverter bring that? Thanks

the bulb has one lead running off each end, terminating in a plug very similar to a 3-pin fan plug, but with 2 pins. This plugs directly into the socket on the inverter. The inverter comes with a pair of bare leads that you can use to tie into any 12-volt power source. Personally, I modded a molex connector, and run these to individual toggle switches, and then straight to the power supply...... Running for 10 months now, and no problems whatsoever.

More info: The inverter is about the size of a large pencil eraser, and ships in a white paper box just big enough to fit over it. I just run the power leads into the box, and run the light leads out, and it saves you from having to pay for insulation material. They don't look bad inside the case either....just use some double-sided tape, and mount them out of the way neatly.....presto!

Is that all you need? What is the inverter for. Also why are the kits so much? Whats the difference between kit and just the light and inverter

defiant1, Could you lease give a little more detail on the power leads & connectors that do come with the inverter & light.Since you have ordered a bunch of these from these folks, is this a recently reduced price on just the bulk parts?. It looks like the kits are still $34.Thanks for the deal. Ps.s. Thanks, just read your 2nd post, pizza dude pulled me away, thanks!

Kits usually bring all the extra goodies (double sided tape, zip ties, switch, etc). If you have these laying around just buy the bulb and the inverter itself. Also, the lights I belive use a different voltage or something thats not compatible with a normal PSU, so thats where the inverter comes in. It doesnt work without one.

Those lights need 700 or 800 volts, so unless you have your own power supply, you should just use that one, its cheap enough and you wont zap anything.

yes, that is the inverter.

edit: Just so I don't look like a post-whore, I'm going to start putting my replies in the original post after this one.

Shipping is very reasonable...they don't rape you for "handling charges", and prices are standard.....but you'd know that if you'd go to the website, and dummy up an order.

COLD-CATHODE FLUORESCENT LAMP, BLUE V-FLB $4.75 Sub Total $4.75
UPS 2nd Day (4-6 days, US 48 States) ($5.55) Shipping $5.55
UPS 2nd Day Air (Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico Customers ONLY) ($15.00)
UPS Next Day Air - (2-3 days) ($28.00)
Canada 3-4 days (Brokerage & Shipping, not Tax) ($35.00)
UPS Worldwide Express (Not USA or Canada, not Tax, 3-6 days) ($45.00)

My only problem is the switch. Am I correct in assuming that no switch means the CC is on all the time when it is plugged in and off when it is not plugged in? How is the shipping charges?

Regarding the title of this thread, you might be interested in knowing that a black hole is actually very cold. The temperature of a black hole is very close to absolute zero or zero degrees Kelvin = -459 deg F = -273 deg C.

Seems like a pretty good deal for anyone willing to spend 10 mintues soldering something.

But....UPS 2nd day takes 4-6 days???? Next Day take 2-3days????? hrmm..very odd.................

Are you paying for shipping & storage? Does she have heatwear? This isn't just some ploy to get rid of her, is it?

Anyone tried any of these from them? From the pics on their site, don't the CC light colors seem a little lighter than elsewhere? Or is it just a poor picture? Also they call their red 'red/pink'. I want a deep dark blue or red.
Also I thought about getting a black UV cold cathode from SVC (on sale $14.99 right now) and some glow in the dark cables (or they told me their silver braided cables are UV sensitive too). As well, they said the blue tinted clear fan in the Raidmax case (but where to buy separately?) lights up bright blue/violet w/ black CC lights.
Anyone tried any of these?

I've purchased from these guys before (an FM transmitter to broadcast MP3's throughout the house). They're good guys to work with.
