Hey all,

Just curious which Linux distro everyone is presently using. I'm using FC6.

If anyone wants another distro added to the poll please let me know!

OpenSuse 10.2 on and off. When I get a Core2Duo at the house I'll run Suse w/XP as a guest (VM).

Ubuntu Server 6.10 for my server.

I have previous experience with Slackware and Gentoo but so far Ubuntu has been the best.

OK, I added OpenBSD and Solaris. *comment changed due to good point being made by n0c.

I tried TurboLinux Server Lite once (the disc came with a video card). It had no GUI, or not that I knew of anyway, so it was a bit difficult for a first-timer

OK, I added OpenBSD and Solaris. Mac OS X = All hail Steve Jobs, MS = all hail Bill Gates.

But the "all hail jobs" entry makes it look like all mac os x users don't know what *nix is, which is just plain silly.

You forgot FreeBSD, NetBSD, ans DragonflyBSD.

Not to mention HP-UX and AIX.

Fedora at home for me, just because the corporate standard is RH. And call me crazy, but I just picked up an older SunBlade (sparc) and put Solaris 10 on it "just for kicks". It only set me back $65--couldn't pass that up.

n0cmonkey,

Fair enough, though the poll is what 'nix distro are you using, not which OS. I'll change my comment about equating the all hail comments to choosing OSX and MS respectively.

Thanks for the additional input!

Would it be advisable to have a SLED (Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop) category in addition to the Suse category? Or perhaps I should nix the REHL category and just lump that in with Fedora. Though I was curios if anyone used REHL.

Opinions? Though I seemed to answer my own question, I probably should have a SLED category so I will add it.

Debian everywhere, I've got a few VMs with other distros but usually just for testing to see what's kept where.

I tried TurboLinux Server Lite once (the disc came with a video card). It had no GUI, or not that I knew of anyway, so it was a bit difficult for a first-timer

From what I remember TurboLinux was just one of the many RH forks from years ago.

But the "all hail jobs" entry makes it look like all mac os x users don't know what *nix is, which is just plain silly.

The majority by a large margin probably don't...

Why not take out the *nixes, leave the linuxes and fix the title of the thread if that's what you mean. The ones I listed (except the Linux distros of course) are all operating systems, not distros.

Apple's put the fact it's "unix based" into half the marketing out there. They know, as much as any of us know what *nix is anyhow.

Plus all of the technically elite are using Macs now, didn't you hear?

n0c,

Again, you have some valid points. Asking what distro of 'nix and then giving AIX as an option is not really valid. AIX being a "version" or "release" of Unix not a distro of 'nix. Though I suppose I may be stretching the meaning of distro rather far. I'll think on this but I may implement your suggestions.

On a side note, who runs AIX? We have an aging AIX box here (which I am the sole supporter for) and I wouldn't mind having a contact with AIX experience.

n0c you are right, the new releases of the MAC OS are Unix based. Man, maybe you should be running this thread!
