I don't know why you are posting that question in this thread, the Optorite drive doesn't come with Sonic MyDVD software, it come with B's Recorder GOLD5 CD/DVD burning/authoring software, which supports the HD-BURN feature, the B's CLiP for packet writing and Intervideo WinDVD playback software.

Well, Livewarehouse says it comes with "BHA Software, Sonic DVD Software." I assumed this was Sonic MyDVD - am I or the site wrong?

Mine came woth Sonic MyDVD along with the B's Gold, B's Clip, and WinDVD. As to whether or not any of it is any good, I couldn't really say. I attempted to use the B's Gold, but until it had been recently upgraded it did not actually support HD BURN. I use Nero and Power DVD. I installed Sonic MyDVD but found that I really don't have a use for it. The easiest way to find out whether or not it is any good is to try it for yourself. You're paying for a good drive and this software is sort of a minimal package to go with it.

I'll believe it when I see it. Who needs to burn a DVD in under 10 minutes anyways?

I bought that DVD player recently because it was top-rated at dvdrhelp. It should be able to handle most discs. The impression I get is that DVD burning is like CD burning was a few years ago as far as compatability is concerned.

So, that Ritek 4X DVD+R I burned will not play on my Sony. The first 10 minutes plays fine, and then it craps out.

Still on the search for compatible media with this Optorite drive! Any tips?

My bad, I was using the info from the CDRinfo.com review of the Optorite 0203 drive where there is on mention of the Sonic MyDVD software being included with the drive. Try doing a search at Google.com for reviews of that software.

Try a DVD(-)R media, that the advantage of having a drive that can burn both DVD+R and DVD-R media if one format doesn't work in your DVD player you can try the other format.

That's what people were saying about CD's 2 years ago.

Hmm. I'm not sure whether to get this drive, or the slightly more expensive Pioneer A06. Is it worth the extra $20?

I borrowed a friend's Sony 715 for last weekend and the 4X +R Verbatim discs ID'd as Ricoh (supposedly mfg by Ritek) all played fine in it. These were all burned at 4X with Nero version 5.5.10.42.

I'm trying to decide between this one and the NEC-1300a. People are raving about the hacked firmware on the NEC on dvdrhelp website.

The Sonic MyDVD software is borderline useless. I just use other software.. It is a good drive though, I've burned a couple of DVD s at 4X and my Toshiba set top read them just fine.

I was getting rip speeds of 1X and burn speeds of 1.3X on a 2.4X disc. Then I tried booting from a partition with a fresh install of XP. The rip speed went up to 4X and it burned at the rated speed. The data partition was the same in both cases.

If you use Nero it doesn't tell you what the actual burning speed is.

I ordered the black face place version here MemoryMedia. My total was $164.06 shipped. My drive already shipped FEDEX, I'll let you all know if I have a bad experience with MemoryMedia. I used AmericanExpress to cover myself
