Well, I put a second copy of Win2k on another partition, and discovered why my drive wouldn't work. I reinstalled my drivers one at a time, doing a test burn between each install. I found that the drive started hanging after I installed my second VIA Bus Master Ultra DMA driver. For some reason, windows wants to install it twice (one for each IDE channel?). The drive worked after the first install, but not after the second. So I uninstalled the second and everything works fine. Not sure what I gave up. Device manager shows my primary IDE channel in DMA mode, and my secondary IDE channel in ultra DMA mode.
Anyway, what is the final story with the firmware region coding? I flashed my drive to 2.16, but WinDVD won't play a disc until I make the hardware change from R2 to R1. Is there a (free) way around this, or do I just have to bite the bullet and use up one of my changes?
Thanks!
