EDIT: Just started up the card and it is default clocked at 200/400 factory. A true 32MB 400 Mhz card. Didn't think they even existed. Built in hardware monitoring too for you who like to overclock *wink*

EDIT2: Figured I'd change the thread name to get one started about these cards since the thread was already mixed anyway.

I was at a computer show today and bought a Geforce 2 Pro 32MB card for 129+tax. I was at the forefrotn of the 'we hate people who mark 32MB card without 5ns RAM as Pros' debate. I noticed however after opening the box that the RAM on my card doesn't look exactly like the RAM on Leadtek's site. The markings for the RAM are : 'ASCEND AD432M3224VLA-5'. This looks to me kinda like Leadtek may be using 5ns ram on their newer Geforce 2 Pros (the '-5' at the end). If they are, then the 32MB version may be a good deal with the free Fedex Saver shipping (I dunno if the MSI 64MB will ever be in stock again). I dunno if the 64MB version is also 5ns or not as leadtek specs them as 5.5ns on all sites. If you look at anandtech though under reviews, you get most of the performance boost going to Pro from GTS not from the 64MB but from the fact that the ram is faster (compare the GTS 32MB and GTS 64MB reviews at 1024 and below to see the small difference). For those on a budget, 132 total seems kinda nice for 1024X768 and below. I must stress though that there's no way to see the speed of your ram without opening the box or having someoen look at the card itself (same as with MSI). Even if you get 5.5ns though, you can probably oc to 5ns level. I'll ty and find a way to post a pic of the card if anyone really wants to see it.

The MSI has been out of stock for weeks ... it goes for 150 +shipping on all other sites. I wanted the MSI, but I wasn't willing to wait around for it. Personally , I would prefer it to the leadtek.

Just got the MSI card from newegg for $125 *refurb* WITH 5 ns RAM. Had a helluva time getting it going in games til I changed my AGP aperture size to 4 from its usual 64. It would shut down the monitor and die on me til I made the change. Anyhoo, I still have some tweaking to do as w/ the new Det. drivers I get the same fps as my Elsa GF1 SDR @ the same res., color depth and tweaks. It has potential, just not the easiest upgrade for whatever reason.

I have the MSI 64MB card and had a similar problem that WT described, games would just give me a blank screen, but all I had to do was turn AGP from 4X down to 2X and now everything runs great (AGP 4X isn't really necessary yet anyway). I attached a blue orb to the GPU and am running it at clock/memory of 240/475. Runs like a charm now, very glad I went with this card over the Kyro and RadeonLE.

They have some comparisons of different driver versions at the site below. I tried detonator 12's first with the leadtek, but got better results with the old Det6's that were on the driver CD. The site agrees with the results. For the most part they say the newer drivers must only offer improvement for Geforce 3's.

Every time I get auto-notify about the 64MB version being in stock, it would be out of stock again the moment I went and check it at newegg, grrrrrrr.:|

I have the MSI from newegg with 5ns DDR. I put on a Blue Orb and heatsinks to OC. Can run 252/495 before I run into bad video. Using Det 12.41 and VMax with no problems. Currently running 245/490 and it will post better scores than my Asus v8200 GF3. I currently have 2 P4 1.7Ghrz systems with 512mb. Only difference is Video Card. MSI GF2 PRO vs. Assus GF3??? I was going to send a post of my results to HardOCP.com in the morning. I have 2 more MSI cards on order, should get them tuesday. YEAH...

Speedo68:

Are you serious? 252/495?!!? Maybe it's time I go blow $25 on a orb and mem heatsinks. I would be interested to know what you hit BEFORE the kit.

It was running at 237/475 before I modified the card. The card is extrememly fast right outta the box. I also use active cooling from my Fong Kai case to direct more airflow around the card. After lapping and putting on the Blue Orb, I got to 252/481. I had some extra heatsinks laying around that I modified to fight my old GF2 GTS 32MB card. I put the Ram Heatsinks and was able to go to 252/488. I put another fan directing air to the Ram and was able to get to 252/492. It ran SysMark2000 for about 90 minutes. Quality was OK, so I backed down to 245/490. It ran all night last night with the Q3 Demo. It is now producing a lot of ghosts, so I will trun down again to 235/470 or so. It is a very good OC board. I will have 2 more to test with my AMD systems tommorrow morning. I was just surprised that my GF2 Pro card is outperforming my GF3 straight outta the box. Wondered if paying $350 was worth the GF3 with no difference in Benchmarks or Quality in today's games???

Got my leadtek up to 250/460 just as a trial with the useless 'enhanced' leadtek HSF. did 3dmark 2000 and got 7550+ on a tbird 840Mhz 105 FSB. I'll try for more tonight maybe. Am I the only one that noticed not much change in 3dmark when overclocking ? at 200/400 I got like 7150. Can't believe I just bought a card for 130 bucks that is bascically the same as a Geforce ultra with 32MB instead of 64MB. It's nice to see Nvidia finally entering the realm of reason on their pricing. It's also kinda interesting that all teh chips nvidia is making now are probably up to ultra standards. With RAM getting better too, there's probably little difference between the ultras and the pros other than a snazzy HSF and ramsinks. Geforce 3 probably just ain't worth the money right now at all. Buy a Pro and fleabay it when the 3's come down or give it your grandma.

Sidenote: Does anyone know a few sites with 3dmark2000 results for some cpu and vid card combos.

EDIT: So no thinks I'm dissing MSI or pushing Leadtek, a major reason I put this post up is to alert people that there are apparently some 5ns 32MB Pros out there now. Whiel a lot of companies are pushing Pro cards with worse than standard ram, Leadtek (and MSI to an extent) are
pushing 5.5ns RAM cards that actually have 5ns RAM. It's interesting I think ...

PRODUCT NUMBER: W0200222
CODE: LR-2842

I bought the card from the people that run http://www.pc-beyond.com/ at a computer show in RI run by www.coganfairs.com . Don't know if you would have the same luck with the RAM as I did. A lot of sellers had this style of card all in teh same style boxes. The only thing that looked unusual on my box was that the 32MB was actually on a green sticker placed over the area where the amount of RAM is listed. That's probably just packaging though. My actual card does say Geforce2 Pro and not Geforce2 GTS like the leadtek enhanced GTS's are supposed to say. I think the card I got is actually a new version and not just a suped up one of the Enhanced GTS's. Also, the box does not say GTS anywhere on it, nor the actual RAM speed. On the back under its description, it says 'From the same Nvidia Geforce stable that gave you Geforce2 Ultra, GTS, and MX ...'

UPDATE: The MSI 64MB is listed ETA 7/2/2001 for those that want to know.

It's NIRVANA, kiddo.......

EDIT: My apologies to those easily offended.... Yeah, I must look like an ass, since the only version of this song I've ever heard (in the 10 or 15 years since Nirvana did it) is the one that was the most successful. Excuse me for being audio-challenged. I guess I'll go back to my 25-year old (vinyl/cassette/CD) collection and see if I can find all the previously unknown song covers... God knows I'd hate to embarass myself again.

Try again, "kiddo"...Nirvana COVERED 3 Meat Puppets songs for their unplugged session...with two of the members there playing with them. I'm sure everyone here who's musical tastes don't stop with the billboard top 200 could tell you that as well. Make sure you've got your facts straight before you try to knock someone else...you might keep yourself from looking like an ass.

Naw, it's Meat Puppets. Written by Curt Kirkwood. The Meat Puppets idolized Curt and let him sing some of their songs for the Unplugged show, which he performed admirably. Check out the album insert. MP also wrote 'Oh ME' and 'Lake of Fire'. the studio 'Lake of Fire' is a bonus track on Too High to Die. Sorry , I'll try and stay on topic next time.
