Upgrade a Mac video card

Friend of mine has a mac and wants to get a video card that supports video out. I have never worked with macs successfully and I am really unsure of any compatibility issues. I have pretty much noticed that the mac use ATI based chipsets and have drivers to support them so I can figure it will be a radeon. The current system has a radeon 9000 pro in it. Well if anyone has done this before or knows which cards I should use any advice is highly appreciated. I just don't want to repeat the time I put a DVD burner in another gus mac and it wouldn't work in it. Thanks.

The video card upgrade abilities differ among the product lines:

Upgradeable: Power Macintosh
Upgradeable to some extent: G4 Cube
Not upgradeable without serious modding or at all: iMac, iBook, eMac, PowerBook, Mac Mini

Your friend needs a "Mac Edition" card if he's able to upgrade his Mac.

Get the 9800 pro mac edition from Daystartechnology.com. I have dealt with these guys in the past...i couldnt ask for more in a Apple company.

If it has the Radeon 9000, I'd assume he has the Quick Silver or MDD series Powermac. Your best bet is to get the 9800 pro Mac edition. Make sure it is the Mac edition, not the special mac edition. The special is an 8x agp card and would only work with the Powermac G5.

Really, I can't justify paying so much for that 9800 pro mac edition.

So sorry I didn't check back with this thread (classes started). I belive he has a G4 or g5, but I don't really know,

but I do appreciate your repsonses. I find it a little dissapointing there is not low range options that include a video out.
