It's been a while since my last upgrade, when I did a complete overhaul (video card, motherboard, ram, cpu, and psu, etc.)

Here are my current specs:

GTX 260 896MB
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Deneb 3.0GHz
OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB)
Asus M4N82 Deluxe Socket AM2+ / AM3
Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650-Watt TX Series 80 Plus Certified Power Supply
Win 7 Prem 64bit
1920x1080 monitor

I think am looking at going with the GTX 560 ti

My main question is, am I ok only upgrading the video card? Will that CPU be good enough for the new video card? Will it be a bottleneck, etc.?

Or would it be worth wild to also upgrade the cpu/mobo to an intel i7? If I did that, I would also jump to 8 gigs of RAM as well,

Also, is a GTX 560 ti a good choice, or are they better options out there in that price range ($200-$250)? I am not opposed to using ATI either.

I do not overclock.

Thanks and appreciate the help, as always.

Don't worry about an I7 for gaming, if you are going to jump to 1155 pick up an I5 2500k or even the equivalent ivy bridge chip.

As to whether your current card will be a bottleneck it would all depend on the game, all I can say with the info you have provided is that a SB or IB chip will be less of a bottleneck than youir current CPU.

The 560 TI is a nice card but we really need to know what resolution you are planning on gaming at to give any sound advice, if you check the top of the general harware forum there is a sticky post for you to copy/paste and fill int he relevant information.

Thanks. I will be playing at 1920x1080. I updated my first post with this info also. As for games, nothing too recent right now. I still play civ5, and would probably go back and play gtaIV, Fallout 3, L4D2, etc. But would also be looking at some newer games eventually.

A high clocked Phenom II is basically the same as a high-clocked Core 2 Quad, which is to say still competent for gaming. You could obviously improve performance even more by going with an i5, but that will up the cost by $400 or so. The GPU needs to be upgraded no matter what though, so I would by that first and see if you are happy with the performance improvement.

As for the GPU itself, the GTX 560 Ti is fine at close to $200. If you were looking to spend more like $250, the 7850 is a better deal.

I'll probably just upgrade the GPU for now, and worry about a new mobo, cpu, ram later. Thanks again.
