I play a lot of fps and now a lot of bf2. Looking at my computer is it worth it to upgrade any part of it. I?m looking at the video card and 1 more gig of memory. I really prefer NVIDIA over ATI as I live 50 miles from San Fran and like to support American companies when I can. I can play bf2 at high with 4x AA @ 1078x768 and play smooth at 50fps. Looks awesome and it might finally knock me off the cs/ css addiction I?ve had for 5 years now.

When I try to put the textures up to high it gets choppy so I just put it back to medium and its fine, plays well. So would spending 123.00 on another gig of memory at new egg and spending minimum 300.00 for another AGP solution is worth it?

I?m thinking I may be good to go until the next upgrade to pci express. BF2 will keep me happy for at least 1 or 2 more years. If cs 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, kept me hooked I may be ok. Anyway thank you for helping figure if the upgrades would be smart or not.

OOps sorry it's a 3200+ @2ghz, I'm not a big overclocker and I like the speed of the via sata. I do have my 6600gt agp @ 550 and 1000 though.
The speed of the X850 might be nice but is it really worth the money for the upgrade? And I do Like Nvidea, would a 6800 series make any sense or am I stuck until next big upgrade in a year or so.

BF2 definatly benifits from 2gb of ram, but you are slightly limited by your 6600GT as well, and might benifit more by upgrading it to a 6800GT. It's really up to you weather it's worth it to be able to increase the settings some. I'd probably be happy with it the way it is, but thats just me. Of course I have only played BF2 on my 7800GT since it came with it, but for me, as long as I can play the game smoothly at 1024x768 or 1280x1024, I don't usualy care if it won't run at the highest settings.

Yes I'm starting to feel that even the extra gig of memory is not even needed on this computer. Maybe I'll wait because I want to move to 2 1 gig sticks on my next build.

That is a pretty impressive rig, you might be disappointed by any upgrades you do... unless you go dual core or 7800gt or somthing insane like that.

Well I could do dual core but I have to stick with APG solution. I might be priced out of the 6800 ultras, and it might not make any sense anyway. If the only benefit in buying 1 more gig of ram is to see high textures than maybe it's not worth 123.00 just for high textures.

What do you think? Are high textures worth it?

Umm... I really don't think you're gonna be seeing higher textures with more system ram. That'll help load times. (system ram is used for textures through the AGP aperature, but that's too slow to of much benefit AFAK).

If want higher textures get a gfx card with more vid ram (and one powerful enough to use it). If the 6600GT has 128MB, might think about a 6800GT with 256MB or the ATI equavilent (right now, even using using a 6800GT I'm thinking the IQ is better on the ATI side)
