Upgrade from Crucial M4?

I've been on my trust Crucial M4 128 gb since early 2012, but it's been getting quite full so I'm looking for an alternative drive. I was considering getting another Crucial M4, since I've been satisfied with it thus far. However, if there's anything better at the moment, I'd be more than happy to make the switch.

I'm looking at something in the 240 - 256 gb realm. Have SSDs made significant improvement (in real world usage) since 2012? Is there anything else worth looking at? I'm looking for Sata 6gbps btw

I'm in the same boat with a 128GB M4
mx200 is essentially the evolution of the M4
You'll remember that the M4 used to excel at reads, the newer ones are more well rounded for reads/writes.
Double the write speeds and slightly better read speeds are what you'll see.
Personally i'm trying to hold out till next year, maybe crucial nvme. Although the mx200 is cheap at under $100 at 250GB. I'd personally get the mx over the bx or evo, but that's just me.

The SSDs that I keep eye out for are Samsung 850 EVO, SanDisk Extreme PRO (or Ultra II), and Crucial MX200.

There's an 250gb Samsung 850 EVO on sale on Newegg for $100 CAD ($75 USD). I'm considering getting this one. Would a MX 200 for an extra ~$20 or so be worth it?

Might want to just wait for black friday or boxing day at this point. SSDs are one of the typical sales items.

You can get that EVO for the same price at Bestbuy, the difference is free shipping as at opposed $6 shipping from Newegg.

Since Black Friday is coming up, lots of SSD deals are popping up. Crucial BX100 500GB for $120 (after coupon codes) or the Samsung Pro 850 512GB for $170; both on jet.com.

I doubt you'll notice much of a difference. The new drives are faster, but it's not night and day.

Capacity per dollars probably what you're looking for.

I have a 256gb M4 in my laptop (Thinkpad T420) and I've been using Samsung 850 EVO and 850 Pro drives by the dozen in the T420 and T430 laptops I build for people. I notice a significant difference with the Samsung drives personally and if I were running out of space on my M4, that's what I'd use. I had a rash of bad luck with my M4 drives in 2012-2013 so I switched to Samsung and have only had 1 bad one out of the 200+ I have used since then. Beats the heck out of mechanical drives for reliability in my book!
