i am going from a k6-2 300mhz to:

xp 1800 retail - $105
MSI kt3 Ultra -$77
onboard sound
pc2100 256mb -$45
radeon 8500LE -$109

already owned:
30.8 WD hd @ 5400
Aopen case and powersupply 250watts
keyboard, mouse, etc.
15 inch Acer monitor
edit: Aiwa stereo (as my speakers)

want to be able to:
run emulators
play warcraft 3
photoshop, flash, etc.
general usage

please give me any suggestions and comments you have, as i have to decide on my configurations in 2 days. thanks.

Looks decent. 3 things tho:

1.you are gonna really miss a 7200rpm HD. I would encorage you to get a new 7200rpm HD. It makes a significant difference over 5400rpm in 90% of the apps that most ppl use.
2. I doubt the 250w PS will be enough for a R8500LE and a XP 1800+, I'd suggest getting a 300W Antec PS
3. What about memory? The KT3 Ultra can't take the PC100 that your K6-2 likely uses and besides even if it could, your system would be greatly bottlenecked. I'd try to get 512MB for your puroposes. edit: never mind, missed the 256megs PC2100

I guess it depends on the quality of your speakers but you might want to consider getting a sound card.

Yea that too. Mite look into The Asus A7N266-C, A7N266-VM, MSi K7N415 Pro or Abit's NV7m all of which are nForce boards under $100 that have the On-Board nForce DD 5.1 Audio which is just as good as a SB Live! and rivals an Audigy as well

um... i actually bought the case at a local store earlier today. the guy asked me what i am going to run and i told him athlon XP, then he said this case will suffice. nothing great, but it only cost me $30 though. could someone verify if my power supply will be able to handle all these things? all i know is that xp 1800 takes about 60-65 watts of power. else.... clueless.

thanks for the advice. i know onboard sound isnt that great, and a SB Live! only cost $32 at newegg.com. but i am on a really tight budget here so... gotta settle with this right now. otherwise i wanna pick up the SB 4.1 speakers too!
