Upgrade or No Upgrade

I have a Toshiba P100 with a Core Duo T2300@ 1.66GHz with 512MB of DDR2-667 and nVidia GeForce Go 7300. Will my laptop improve its performance if i upgrade my RAM to 2GB DDR2-667? If I should upgrade, which one would be a good one (cheap but good/normal) for upgrade? Please select the RAM on Canada Computersas this is the only store that i will go to.

The short answer is probably, but the real answer is that it depends on a number of things.

What OS are you running? What applications do you normally use, and how many instances of them do you have running? When you notice your computer bogging down, have you checked Task Manager to see how much memory you're using, and how high your CPU usage is?

I am currently running Windows XP Home Edition. I usually just browse Internet and use MSN. However, I am interested in playing new games. I just C&C3 on my laptop recently and it is not very smooth, even in low setting. I also play WOW and WC3. You can say i am a medium video game player. I actually use almost all my ram when i am running games.

More RAM probably wouldn't hurt, but your video card might also be holding you back. I can't say for sure because I don't know the ins and outs of mobile graphics cards.

Just get one 1GB module for XP, it will help tremendously (not for any serious gaming though!).

My wife's old 1.6GHz Turion ACER was really sluggish with only 512MB, but worked much better with 768MB, and then with 1.25GB (128MB integrated Video). She even played Sims 2 at 800x600 on that machine.

I'd suggest a couple 2 GB dimms if your notebook supports 4 GB, but realistically, 2x1 GB would be quite fine for XP, & will be a huge upgrade from your existing 512 MB.

Hmm... 1GB of Crucial for $25... You should be able to play those games just fine with more RAM, My friend has a laptop with almost your specs and WoW runs fine.
