Upgrade or not?

I use Nvidia or ati, my last rig have 2 4870x2, now I have 2 EVGA GTX 480 in sli.

they work very well, I play games at max details, I have a U2913wm 2560x1080 and a secondary monitor 1280x1024.

Crysis maxed out whit msaa 2x play very nice (I don't say I have 60 FPS, but you don't have any slow down)

bf3, gta4 icehander 3, all play maxed out.

the 480 go strong but they do not have any more to give.

cpu is amd 8120 at 4.5


my mobo have 1x16 and 1x8 for gpus (raid card use 8 lanes)


so I think a dual GPU will be best for the x16 slot and left rom for another dual card in the future (690,7990), I understand the crossfire/sli potentials issues (I make rome total war 2 to use SLI!!!)

dual gtx 780 o dual r9 290 will not go out this year....and the new price drops do to the new releases are nice.

so: 2 gtx 680? 1 gtx 690? 2 7970? 1 7990?

so far the 7990 is the cheaper.

I hope you could share some info and point out my errors.

time for new cpu if those are your gpu aspirations. you need an oced ivy bridge to push high end gpus especially in those cpu intensive games.

I suggest dropping in a FX 8350 and getting a HD 7970 before they become harder to find and price go back up.

I also have a core I7, and my gtx 480 where on that rig before.

I don't think that a new CPU will put 40% or more FPS and headroom for future games, but I plan on new cpu for next year, today my gpus are the bottleneck and we have price drops..

Sell the 480s and pick up 2x GTX760s or 2x HD7970 1Ghz cards and overclock them. When you upgrade your CPU next year, sell these and get 20nm cards.

I also want if possible a open door to quadfire/quad sli. (my older setup was 2 4870x2)

in Argentina the 7990 is 8000 pesos, gtx 690 12000 ore more, 2 7970 en up 9500, a dual gpu allow room for a second in the future.

We have most imports close, so the rule here is : if you doubt is because you have the $, buy before to late.

PD:electric bill is very low here so I don't care about TDP, (my rig use 500W at idle, 1100 in crisis).

time to think and look at prices.
