Upgrade problems

I recently upgraded my friends processor and memory. I updated the BIOS so it would recognize the new processor, but now Windows will not boot. If I clear out CMOS, the computer will boot to Windows, but the processor and memory speeds are limited.

Mobo: ABIT KD7E
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (Barton core)
Memmory: Kingston Value Ram 1GB

Any assistance in troubleshooting this issue is greatly appreciated.

Just a thought- but have you tried doing a "repair installation" of XP with the updated BIOS? I know when replacing a lot of hardware (usually the mobo) Windows sometimes won't boot or function properly until you do the repair install. To do this, boot from your XP CD, enter setup, do NOT choose the recovery console, and when you eventually get the option, select the repair install. This will NOT wipe your whole HD and may allow windows to recognize your new bios/proc/memory. No guarantees but you can give it a try!

Thanks for the tip. I will have to try it. I tried to boot in Safe Mode and the XP files started loading then froze. I think you may be right on with this suggestion.
