Well, my system doesn't NEED upgraded by any means, it smokes all games I play on high settings, but I've been seeing alot of hype about these Mobile AXP's and its making me antsy. I'm not extremely satisfied with the overclock I got out of my current and CPU (but who is in this forum? lol). Got my CPU up to 11x200 or 10.5x210 on PC3200 so I was thinking about selling my old Gig of Corsair TwinX PC3200 (BH-5 chips) and my Barton 2500+ (unlocked) and upgrading to a AXP Mobile and some OCZ PC3500 or PC3700.

Questions.. how much could I expect to get out of my RAM and/or CPU if I were to sell them online here or some other online forum?

2... what's the best pc3500 or PC3700 out right now for the price? Back when I was current with all of this stuff, OCZ's PC3700 Gold and Mushkin's LII PC3500 Black was top stuff, but I'm a little bit out of the loop now.. I know the BH-5 chips are discontinued, so I have no idea who's got the goods now.

3... What stepping should I look for in these new AXP Mobile CPU's? There a particular speed/model I need to look for?

Thanks for help.

(1) Just do a search in the FS/FT forum here for "2500+" and "PC3200". You'll find plenty of sales for those two items, and you can get a feel for how much you can sell them for

(2) No clue...but I recommend sticking with the brand names like Mushkin or Crucial.

(3) Generally, all the steppings for the mobile chips are good. In theory, you should be able to get the highest OC with the 2600-M, but you've got to decide if it's worth the extra $20-25 over the price of the 2400-M.

1. $80 for CPU, and $280 for BH5 1 GB
2. OCZ EB 3500 and 3700, or Corsair XL 3200 (can do DDR500)
3. no clue, i have Intel

wow, i wouldn't have guessed the resale value on the RAM would be that high.. I'll have to do some searching @ FS/T like others recommended to confirm that.

he's on crack. $80 for the cpu??? He's give you retail value. I can get a new one for cheaper. I'd say the cpu will sell for $50 tops.

well, mainly I just want to be able to get a little more performance than my current setup, but use less voltage and produce less heat (so i can turn my fans down for quieter operation). My enermax adjustable is on full blast @ about 3500 RPM's, and I can just hear it over the rest of my system, so if i could nudge that down a little, I can't hear it anymore over the rest of the system, which is pretty darn quiet. So, that said... if the 2400-M can get me to 2.3 or 2.4 GHz on less voltage than 1.85, then the upgrade is more than worth it to me over my current 2.2GHz @ 1.85vcore with my 2500+.

I just need a little boost with a little noise reduction. I can tell people have been getting faster machines cause i'm not always the first or 2nd person to load and spawn in BF1942 I keep missing out on my planes/jeeps. A couple hundred extra MHz should do the trick >

you don't really need an upgrade, i'm sure, you're well aware of that. it probably won't be worth the money you put out. your Bh-5 ram should do VERY well, some pc3500 ram use BH-5 chips. i would go to the amd forums for more info on what are the better steppings. it looks like you want a set up similiar to mine. i have a mobile XP 2600+ at 12x200 for 2.4ghz at 1.6v core or 1.65 (i forget) will check when i get home, . stable in Prime95 and Memtest86. my stepping for my Kingston HyperX 3000 is 2-2-2-11 at 2.8v maybe 2.9, i haven't checked lately and i have an NF7-S v2. i bought my processor before school let out for $104 or so at newegg and the ram at zipzoomfly. but if you're going to sell, i'd love your ram.

Yeah, most likely I won't end up selling the RAM, unless it can't do what i want it to with this new CPU. I haven't pushed it and tested it as far as it can go yet.

Well, ordered my 2400+ 35w from newegg.. Not selling my RAM anymore cause after a BIOS update I was able to obtain better results (currently @ 220MHz 2-3-3-11 stable). CPU is for sale though and I'll be putting that up in the FS/T forum if anyone here is interested.
