1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
- Gaming mostly. Been playing Guild Wars 2, but also been buying a lot of different games from Steam during their holiday sale event. More interested in keeping the system relatively quiet (low speed fans) than OC'ing.
2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
- Budget is about $800 to $1,000. Looking for "best bang for the buck" and "relatively quiet" parts. No jet engines, please! My wife will kill me.
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
- USA
4. IF you're buying parts OUTSIDE the US, please post a link to the vendor you'll be buying from.
We can't be expected to scour the internet on your behalf, chasing down deals in your specific country... Again, help us, help YOU.
- Prefer Newegg and Amazon.
5. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.
- No preference, "best bang for the buck" rule applies here as well.
6. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
XFX Pro650W (assuming it's powerful enough) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817207014
a 256GB SSD drive for OS/Games
a 1TB HDD for storage
a LG DVD Burner (not much of a burner, more of a streamer/VoD kinda guy)
I have a 6950 1GB, not sure if it's still up to snuff. Willing to buy new Nvidia/AMD card whichever is best price/performance wise.
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
- Default speeds, want to keep fan speeds low so I don't get jet engine noises. My wife uses a laptop in the same 10x10 room as me, so I gotta keep her happy!
8. What resolution, not monitor size, will you be using?
- 1080p, also run a second 1080p monitor for chrome, steam friend's list, vent/mumble status/etc when online gaming.
9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Note that it is usually not cost or time effective to choose your build more than a month before you actually plan to be using it.
- This month.
X. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?
- I've got an upgrade license of Windows 7 Home Premium that came with my old CyberPower system. I was planning on transfering it to my new computer when I dispose of my old CyberPower system during the build. I'm assuming that's legal? If not, then I'll have to buy Win7/Win8 again I suppose. I want everything properly licensed.
I've been watching the "Mid-Systems Builder Thread", but I've noticed that the prices/in stock have changed. Like the 7970 is now $400 instead of $360. Don't want to buy things blindly and find out later I could have purchased X and gotten a better deal!
