Question Upgrade suggestions???

I would appreciate any upgrading advice for my gaming rig :

Asrock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer
AMD FX 8350
MSI R9 380
Kingston HyperX 16GB ram
Samsung Evo 860
650w PSU

I would like to able to play the latest fps games at 1080p and with good framerates but would also like to have 4k capability for less demanding games if that makes sense...

Get an Ampere 30-series RTX card, starting from the 3060 Ti.

As you can't buy any Ampere series video cards, i'd recommend a new Ryzen 3600, Motherboard, and a good 16GB kit of DDR4 for now. Should provide a nice boost in games until new video cards are finally available and at a reasonable price.

At this point, you're looking at a total new build basically. The only way to limp forward is with a major GPU upgrade, as mentioned, like an RTX 3060 basically or similar class card. Even then, that CPU is your biggest bottleneck right now.

A B550/570X motherboard with a Ryzen 3600x and 16~32Gb DDR4 memory is rather inexpensive and would be a major upgrade over your current core system. Then it's a matter of getting a RTX 2060 or better card, at that point, with a new core system. Or go farther, if you can, to 3060.

Is Ryzen 3600x good for future proof or should i go Ryzen 7 3700x?

There's no such thing as future proof. The 3600x is significantly more powerful than your old 8 core FX8350. The 3600x has 12 threads and the single core performance is significantly greater. It's a total upgrade. The 3600x for $199 is nearly unbeatable for price. The 3700x has a few more cores, but that's all, which is not useful at all for games--only slightly useful for video encoding. But you'll pay 75% more cost just for that. Not worth it. Either get a 3600x or get a 5600x CPU ($199, $299). If you want more cores, the only worthwhile purchase for cost would be a used 3900x basically or a MSRP 5900x. Your best bet right now is a 3600x.

The ASUS TUF Gaming series is a good motherboard, on the x570 chipset.

Thank you for the advice! Will look into to getting a 3600x and go from there.
