I understand the 768 is better for higher resolutions, and I plan on getting a 32" LCD TV to use as my monitor ( http://www.primaamerica.com/calc32r25.asp ) and whether or not to get the 768MB version or dual 320MB in SLI.

What I do know is that the memory in SLI doesn't add to be 640 but does allow me to use split screen rendering which may help more than a single 768.

My question is which would be the better way to go? I'm leaning towards the dual 320's, but I'm afraid of airflow and heat generation. Cost-wise, where I pick them up they are the same price.

It's almost always better to get a single faster card than two slower cards.

I agree as well. It is better to buy the 8800GTX over two 8800GTS 320. The single GTX will have lower power consumption/heat and have more video memory for higher res monitors.

A single GTS 320 would drive the 1366x768 resolution of that monitor without a single hiccup, if you want to save some money. Personally, I'd still go for the GTX768 though, might as well have the fastest card, if only for a few more months.

Why not wait till the r600 shows up? Prices are bound to fall, plus you'll have a larger selection to choose from.

Id either get a 320 or 640 8800GTS. Getting a 8800GTX is a waste on that rez.

With the exception of 1 or 2 games out there, yeah, it's pretty much a waste right now. Games such as Crysis might end up telling a different story. But I'm not a big fan of buying now for a many-month-down-the-road game. Get what will work fine for now since you can always upgrade later if needed.

The 320mb GTS would be sufficient for you for now. And dirt cheap too. With rebates, it's as low as $260ish.

<<< listen to the man !!! I paid a great price for SLI 8800GTX and it hasn't bought me any good fortune. Good with new games but bad with old games.

If i were you i would buy a Single 8800GTS 640MB... great GPU that produces less heat and consume less power than 8800GTX and is card is smaller in size so it fits in normal ATX case without a problem.

I agree. The 640 gts is perfect for you. It's a great overclocker too.

1080P HAH I wish lol! Those things are running $3000+. I'm getting this one at a bargain at $500, and where I work we have one as a demo running off a dual dual-core (yes two dual cores) xeon Macintosh system. The HD resolution is amazing, and to counter the effect of the low resolution for that size I can up the AA. Haven't tried games though, and I'm not quite sure where to find DVI to HDMI or component.
I suppose the general consensus is that the GTX model is more extravagant. The 640 would be a nice upgrade. I have dual 7900gts right now. An upgrade isn't a priority as I run everything pretty much way above 60 FPS. But sooner or later, DX10 will be required.
I do a lot of autoCAD but gaming is a priority right now as I have my workstation for autocad.
I'll probably upgrade to a single 8950 once they are available instead of springing for the dual 320's. As much as I've enjoyed the 'prestige' of SLI I haven't been impressed with the performance gains enough to settle for lower end models.
Thanks for the input guys.
